New Super Mario Bros. Hits 6 Million In Japan

New Super Mario Bros. (for Nintendo DS) might not have appeared on last week’s Japanese top-20 sales chart, but it’s been making sales progress in Japan nonetheless.

Today, Famitsu reported that the four-year-old game has sold over six million copies in Japan alone. This is according to Enterbrain’s sales tracker. Enterbrain is Famitsu’s parent company.

For our weekly sales chart, we refer instead to another tracker, Media-Create. For the sake of comparison, according to last week’s Media-Create numbers, New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold about 4.1 million units.

  • Wow that many, Ive yet to even play this version of it. I do not think I could go back to it for New Super Mario Bros Wii with the co-op play is madly addicting. Im tempted to play it with my parents since they just bought themselves that Red Limited Edition Wii that came with it (did I mention that it doesnt actually include the full Wii Box for the game, just the sleeve thing like Wii Sports? I love the Red Wii Boxart case ^_^)

Wow, that’s a whole lot of copies. I haven’t played it, but I heard that you could 100% finish it in two days. I’m not really a fan of 2D Mario either, so I stayed away.

I’m too busy with Shiren 5 to get another DS game right now, anyway.

  • The Wii version is superior just for Co-op and the sense of playing an old school Mario game on a TV again (Having played both plenty).

But New Super Mario Bros. DS has been out longer, so these numbers seem reasonable.

  • I wish only 1-2% of that userbase would play other platform games. That might be enough to warrant more Klonoa, Ivy the Kiwi, Dewy… you name it.

For some reason I just don’t like this game as much as Super Mario Brothers 3 or Super Mario World…

The stages are so doesn’t feel like Nintendo put their best effort in it.

I sold it after playing it for a week.

im glade mario is still strong as ever :)

Pac-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro needs a comback. Rachet and Sly are already coming so why not those?

i haven’t played the new sonic, so i can’t comment on that
