Tales of the Town Looks Like A Browser MMO

By Ishaan . February 22, 2011 . 2:01pm

Last night, we reported a “Tales of Town” trademark filed by Namco Bandai, hinting at the publisher’s next Tales game project. While we weren’t entirely sure what the game was, some of the more enterprising Tales fans on the web have managed to find out.

Tales of the Town looks like a browser MMO (massively multiplayer game) where you can customize your avatar with Tales items. The game contains content in one form or another from Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Graces and Tales of The World: Radiant Mythology 3.

You can find the Tales of the Town website here, but as of this post, it’s currently undergoing maintenance, so you can check back later if you want to see more of the game.

A pat on the back for Daniel D. Gonzales for finding the information!

OK.I see.I find this very insulting to the Tales series Namco!

But I guess this game will definitely go English ..You know why.

    • PurpleDoom

It’s not like it’s going to do it any harm or affect the main franchise’s reputation. Let the social game fans have their way, it won’t prevent us from getting stuff like Xillia.

      • joesz

What I was trying to say is that they should have put more effort then that .
I wasn’t really criticizing the concept of it or what so.

    • Why is that? English do not always get browser based games.

    • I find it okay for them to branch out into several areas, as long as they don’t forsake their main series for a browser game. I’ll only rage if that happens.

    • Caligula

      Why would it be localized?

      • joesz

        Just to tease ya:)

        • Caligula

Not too effective to tease someone whose interest in the series has dwindled to the point of being pretty minimal :)

          • joesz

But I think you have to admit it is provocative if they did that.making a localization for this and leaving the rest of the japan stay series out:)

          • Caligula

Oh, definitely, fans would rage hard. I don’t usually agree with the fanbase, but I could at least see some legitimacy in raging about that.

  • Hopefully it is supported on all popular browsers and their mobile counterparts so that everyone can have equal access to playing it (on the go, on their consoles, or on their pcs)

  • From the way things look, it seems like that whole website is Bandai Namco’s own social network, called BaNaFes! Town and Tales of Town is just an extension of it for Tales fans.

    • Yea, I’d assume you’re right. I didn’t want to say anything until we get a chance to scope the full site out though. :)

      • The maintenance is over and it looks like I’m kind of right… It kind of looks like Capcom-Unity, Square Enix Members and Gaia Online mixed all together, but that impression comes w/o a decent knowledge of Japanese. Tales of Town is indeed the their extension of their Gaia Online-esque portion of the site.

The most interesting section of the website is what seems to be an upcoming online Digimon CCG. I might be wrong about that too, but at the very least, it involves cards and the internet.

        • I hope the Digimon CCG is good. Digimon Card Battle arena on the PS1 was intense, although I couldn’t get along with the actual TCG

  • Pichi

If I can dress my character exactly like a Tales character, I’ll be into it.

  • Sounds like one of those Tales of Mobile games they have so many of in Japan.

  • I wonder if it will have battles…

    • Ren

Card Based ones confirmed at least.

      • Zero_Destiny

TALES OF YU-GI-OH!!!!! Sign me up, can’t wait to pwn everyone with my BURN deck!!!!! :P

        • I hate to disappoint you, but it’s some kind of trump card mini-game.

          • Zero_Destiny

DARN YOU NAMCO!!!!!! LIKE ANYONE WANTS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Argh!!! Who was the wise guy who requested Tales of Trump? Darn all of you!!!!

I don’t know how long they’ve been running it, but there might be some people who are into it. It’s not like it’s the only thing to do in BaNaFes! town though.

          • Zero_Destiny

@Lee So wait, It’s like some kind of gimmick buy the cards and scan it on the comp for points/mini games kind of thing then? Meh I still think a TALES and Yu-Gi-Oh collab would of been a better choice lol If it is the card scan thing I highly doubt anyone outside of Japan will be seeing it though. Also didn’t mean to dis the people who enjoy this stuff that’s cool. Just got a little excited when I heard the words cards and TALES. lol

          • Partially perhaps? That is if you’re talking about the new Digimon card game. That’s only one aspect of the site. Tales of Town seems like it’s an expansion to an avatar chat room and the 52(A,K,Q,J…) card game is a mini-game. I can’t tell what game it is specifically though. BaNaFes! Town, as a whole, looks like it’s a fan community network, since they have individual official and unofficial fan community pages.

          • Zero_Destiny

@Lee I see thanks. Glad to see your still as informative as ever. :)

  • AzureChaos

Is it me or does this look like it’s going to be turned-based fighting? (If it even has any.)

    • Ren

      Battles are card based.

  • Oh cool. Could this be similar to .hack//kyat? If so, I will definitely check this out. I miss those times. Too bad kyat couldn’t grow. Let’s see how this will turn out.

  • Yeah, I got credited. XD

  • I’ll bet US$599 that #Dragonball Online #DBO will get localized first.
