More dungeon RPGs? Yes, and from Tri-Ace at that. This week’s Famitsu magazine mentions a game titled Beyond the Labyrinth, developed by Tri-Ace and to be published by Konami on the Nintendo 3DS.

One of the characters in Beyond the Dungeon is a young girl, but whether or not she’s the game’s protagonist is still a mystery. She will apparently talk a lot during the course of the game.

The game is being produced on the Konami end by Shingo Mukaitoge, who led development of Elebits and Dewy’s Adventure on the Wii. On the Tri-Ace end, Takayuki Suguro is the game’s director. You might know him as the director of Resonance of Fate (pictured above) and Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria.

Beyond the Labyrinth will have a bright outlook. Konami haven’t specified a release date for the game yet, but Beyond the Labyrinth game is 60% complete.

  • Needs more Valkyrie Profile 3 XD

    • AGREED!

    • PrinceHeir

      FULLY AGREE!!!!!!!!!

with the new engine, just change the colour pallete to a more angelic like. i would buy 3 copies of it :P

  • Zeonsilt

    VP3SO5 please.
    Thank you.

    • All they can do with Star Ocean is claim SO3 isn’t canon and then make a new one.

      • kroufonz

they should just make SO5 set in 4d space
turn SO1 AND SO2 set on 4d space too
than just threat SO3 as non canon 3d space thing with no connection with SO1 and SO2, and make SO4 just something that happened in 3d space or just make it happened in a parallel world and cut the relation with SO1 and SO2 like it never happened.

        • Or the guys on the 4d space just made a sequel of the “game” if you know what i mean

      • puchinri

You mean SO5? Or an SO to replace 3?

      • Star Ocean 3 had a lot more going for it than the other games. It had an amazing battle system, a variety of characters that were actually fun to play as, interesting areas to explore and a really great post-game. Sure it ruined the SO continuity, but even that wasn’t particularly good or interesting to begin with. Star Ocean 1 and 2’s main premises were literally ripped straight from Star Trek and Captain Harlock, respectively

    • Those are Square Enix franchises. Konami are publishing this game.

      • It’s still Tri-Ace work on the Star Ocean series since Enix now Square-Enix published the game never made it so if Tri-Ace ever works on it Square-Enix probably might release it since there is no dodging it but it is hopeful thinking.

    • Zero_Destiny

Oh but Tri-Ace has made some good games that weren’t from those franchises. I’m sure this one will be good too. :)

      • Zeonsilt

        If it’s like Trinity UniverseNeptunia(3rd person),then maybe.
But if this is *FPS dungeon crawler* i will definitely not buy this.
I just hope it’s not FPS.
/i played JPN Wizardry on my ps3,and i definitely don’t want a *FPS* type.

        • puchinri

Have they ever made a FPS game? ono
I don’t mind more shooting/gun battle stuff from them though. RoF’s battle system is mad fun and bad ass.

          • I think he’s trying to say “first-person dungeon crawler,” since he mentioned Wizardry.

          • Zeonsilt

            Sir,u right.
p.s.i should write *FP* instead of *FPS* ><.

          • puchinri

Oh, lol. I would not have figured that out. x’D
But I also can’t think of many first-person or dungeon crawler games (if any?) that tri-Ace has done. So still no worries?

        • Zero_Destiny

First Person RPG’s took me some time to get into. I hated them and felt they were too ancient even for me but after playing some games like SMT: Strange Journey I’ve really turned around and started to fall in love with the genre myself. Of course personal preferences are fine but you might want to try out some more recent FPRPG’s and see if you like them or not.

But anyways seeing as we don’t even know it’s a dungeon crawler (for sure) yet let’s be a little optimistic. The title is a little misleading. Besides PERSONA is a Dungeon Crawler and a great one. And if it’s anything like RoF then this game should be really good too. So let’s stay hopeful. :)

      • holyPaladin

Yeah, I enjoy Radiata Stories too :D
Although the difficulty is too easy for tri-Ace games…

    • Jirin

I’m hoping for a new series. I would hope VP: Hrist or SO5 would be on PS3 so they wouldn’t have to scale down the combat.

I like the idea of a dungeon crawler with Tri-Ace style combat innovations.

  • Aiddon

count me intrigued. I guess I’ll have to wait longer for VP3 (though the series’ plot DOES make it a bit difficult to figure out how 3 will play out)

  • kroufonz

good thing all tri-ace game since psx always find it way to the west.

after sega and konami maybe next year we could see they work with capcom/namco bandai ><

still hoping for VP3&SO5 on PS3 tough, I believe they didn't show that PS360 tech demo for nothing

  • Ultima Arcana

Not usually a huge fan of dungeon RPGs, but I was sold once I heard Takayuki Suguro was involved. Outside of his role as director for Valkyrie Profile 2 and Resonance of Fate (VP2 still having my favorite combat system in any RPG, ever), he also helped work on Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story. That pretty much gives him a perfect record in my book.

  • puchinri

HYES! I am very excited~. I love RoF, so it’s nice to see another (new) IP from them. (It seems right to put new, but I thought it’s redundant? But I see people do it anyway…)

  • Wonder if they will bring it overseas. Good to see Tri-Ace still in the RPG field. This sounds interesting.

  • Megurine

“Valkyrie Profile 3: Only for Nintendo 3DS” ^_^

  • holyPaladin

tri-Ace jumping on another publisher again
    Wonder what happened with SE…

When they tease that video, my hope is on PS3/360 games :(
Gonna keep eye for this game though

    • Why did they fall out with Squeenix? They were forced to make Star Ocean 4.

    • Konami pays better?

    • PurpleDoom

Regarding SE, what Greg said is pretty much right, if I recall. There was some disagreement over SO4.

As for the teaser video, I don’t think they would show off such a fancy engine without having plans for it.

  • when they say dungeon rpg they mean it’s going to play like Unchained Blades Rexx?

    • We don’t know yet; they haven’t explained the battle system so far so…

  • Oh look. It’s Edge freaking Maverick. Again. I thought they learned their lesson when they showed their tech demo video…

  • Exkaiser

Fan of dungeon-crawlers, not so much a fan of tri-ace.

Not sure if I should expect much out of this one.

  • AzureNova

Tri-Ace needs to change up their music in their games

  • Roses4Aria

I loved both Resonance of Fate and Valkyrie Profile 2, so I’m definitely interested in this! Sigh. So many good games to add to my list and so little time to play them all…

  • Nothing wrong with the 3DS bringing out a dungeon RPG! Looking forward to it!

  • Joanna

I love dungeon crawlers but I’m a little disappointed that all the current (and new) RPGs announced for 3DS are dungeon crawlers. Some variety would be nice. Nevertheless, it’s Tri-Ace so I’m still looking forward to this game.
