Period: The week of Jun 6th – Jun 5th (2011)

Top-seller: Yakuza: Of the End – 298,717

Nintendo 3DS sales: 24,649 | Total sales: 1,089,548

While everyone else was busy with E3, Yakuza: Of the End made its debut in Japan last week. How did it do? It (naturally) debuted at the top of the chart, and sold close to 300,000 units in a week.

For comparison, Yakuza 4 sold a far higher 383,972 units during the week of its own debut in March 2010. Eventually, Yakuza 4 went on to become the best-selling PlayStation 3 game of 2010, with 577,199 units sold by the end of the year.

Alien vs Yakuza would be better

    • godmars

      Naw, alien vs ninja.

      • https://twitter.com/RaiohV ShinkaRaioh

Or Ninja Aliens VS. Zombie Yakuza?

        • shion16

a Yakuza is too manly to be a zombie

          • godmars

Pretty sure a Yakuza gets turned into a zombie.

Too manly to simply shamble while mumbling for brains of course.

That’s an actual film, a pretty fun one too :D

        • Barrit

LOL, I just saw that about 2 weeks ago! It was on Netflix, dubbed in English. The dub probably just added to the comedy though.

      Yakuza vs Predator?

I guess that scene in the new movie doesn’t count.

Not holding my breath for it but I really hope Of the End comes to NA!

Akiba’s trip is doing great, as expected

An Evangelion slot machine game sold over 3,500 copies in its first week.I’m really not sure what to make of that…

I absolutely loved Y4, so I’m hoping Of The End makes it over here!

Pandora’s Tower is still clinging on. Maybe it’ll pull a Ni no Kuni?

    • Aoshi00

I dunno, Ni no Kuni hanging around was most likely due to being slashed to half price shortly after release and the Ghibli recognition..  I finally got my copy of Pandora’s Tower 2 days ago (customs was hogging it), but don’t have time to try yet until this weekend.. doesn’t seem like it would stay for too long like most other new IPs.. game’s rated very highly though, 4-5 out of 5 stars across the board on Amazon Jpn, so hope it would continue to sell..

So behind w/ Yakuza games :(.. didn’t even beat 2 yet, and only played the demo of 3 and Kenzan…

  • DanteJones

Ahh, I’d love to play as Akiyama during a zombie outbreak. Here is to hoping we get the game as well. :D

  • Yukito

OTE’s demo was very underwhelming. Really disliked how the game is Yakuza, yet, you cannot even have it an option to use fists at all. Sort of glad it saw a decline from 3 and 4.

its just a spin-off buddy as they craft the story for Yakuza 5. I’m expecting that one to sale like hotcakes. Sega West need to increase localization speed as well since quite a few things carry over in the series.

      • Yukito

I am aware. Doesn’t make up for the fact the demo was terrible, and Binary Domain doesn’t look like it would make up for it.

  • badmoogle

I enjoyed OTE’s demo quite much so it seems Japan agrees with me.^_^Hopefully if it continues to sell a lot we’ll get it in the west as well.

  • d19xx

I hope Akiba’s Trip break 100k by the end of the month.

  • blah blah

    Does OTE have zombie hostesses?

    • http://twitter.com/thesupersakura Kristina Wright

From screens I’ve seen they do!

    • Barrit

They do. In the demo, you are able to play ping pong and go on a date with one.

  • Jeebs

    Pandora’s Tower :-(
