Hideo Kojima Producing Sdatcher, A Radio Drama Inspired By Snatcher

By Ishaan . July 8, 2011 . 6:48am

Does anyone remember “Project S,” that mysterious collaboration Hideo Kojima and Suda 51 have been teasing for years now? Today, Kojima finally revealed what it is on his “Hideradio” podcast.

Project S is Sdatcher, a radio drama somehow connected to Snatcher, Kojima’s old cyberpunk adventure game on the MSX 2. Snatcher was eventually ported to the Sega CD in English. Sdatcher will be released as part the 300th Hideradio feature, although this doesn’t have a date yet.

Like the game it’s inspired by, Sdatcher will be directed by Kojima himself. Grasshopper Manufacture’s Suda 51 is penning the script, and Shadows of the Damned composer, Akira Yamaoka, is providing the music.

In addition to this collaboration, Kojima also has another mysterious project in the works in partnership with 5pb’s Chiyomaru Shikura.

Don’t tease me like that Kojima and Suda51 =(
I didn’t played Snatcher but I always heard it’s a classic game with one great story.
Hopefully this drama goes so well that they can do a remake or a follow-up to the game (while bundling the original one)

    A Radio Show?

    …….
    Not ZOE 3?

    Boo….

Snatcher was a slow game that used on music, still images and dialogue to create an impact. Whether that was by design or a by-product of yesterday’s technology doesn’t matter to me. It was also so silly at times, so Suda seems to be a good guy to work on this.
I think a radio drama is suited if they want to recreate what I described above, morese than a game by the ‘current’ Konami.

Anyone agree that Cing would have been the best choice to make a “true” Snatcher sequel? Another Code R’s interface and Hotel Dusk’s dialogues. Ooooww….

    • Exkaiser

It’s not Snatcher without Kojima. Part of it is the part where his body is made of movies.

If some other team took it over, it might be a pretty good adventure game, but it wouldn’t have the same feel.

I only played Policenauts and it was an amazing game, got it on Jpn PSN for 600 yen..I was playing it on the PSP.. it was like a mix of science fiction + Lethal Weapon + City Hunter :). Snatcher hasn’t been re-released on Jpn PSN right?  I hope it will be since I won’t the contents of the radio drama unless I play the game first.. A new remake or sequel like Hotel Dusk would be cool… and I’m still wondering if they would bring Last Window over or I need to import :(…

hopefully they’ll discuss future ideas for the series in the future ^^

Suda 51 and Kojima Rocks m/

Yeah, I hope this radio drama is just a start of something bigger for Snatcher series. It’s really going to be great if they follow this with an actual game.

A collaborative game by Kojima Productions and Grasshopper Manufacture would surely grab a lot of attention to gamers. Heck, everyone would be excited for a game that’s directed by Kojima, story and script by Suda 51 and music by Akira Yamaoka.

      • PrinceHeir

        hell yeah :D

if only Konami would stop strangling him with MGS :(

LOVE MGS but Kojima has soo much untapped potential

  • HistorysGreatestMonster

I always wanted to play Snatcher and I hoped that the rumors were about a remake of it for the current systems. This is not what I wanted.

    We had Mikami+Suda15+Akira Yamaoka.

    Now we got Kojima+Suda51+Akira Yamaoka?

    What’s next?
    Hideki Kamiya+Suda51+Akira Yamaoka?
    Make it happen!
