Capcom Working On Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Balance Patch

At an EVO 2011 panel, Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono revealed that a balance patch for Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition is being prepared. No further details are available at the moment, but Ono did mention that the patch would be a free download.

 

Capcom’s Seth Killian tweets that the patch will be available this fall or winter.

    Oh, hey, the Yun and Yang nerf that people have been waiting for.

      Hopefully Fei Long is there with them, I’d say he’s a better char than Yang and a tossup with Yun.  He’s a pretty easy char to pick up to, and I’ve found myself doing better with basic Fei stuff than characters I’ve spent tons more time with.

      But honestly, I’d kinda prefer to see characters get buffs over any nerfs.  Dhalsim is a character I’ll probably never play, but I think his damage nerfs were a bit too extreme.

    The term “balance patch” should never require the qualifier “free” to be in front of it. This has been my complaint regarding fighting game developers for years. They always screwed up their “balance patches” by adding characters and charging money new releases. If you are adding characters, then you are not balancing the game that is, you are making something different and potentially ruining the work you’ve done to balance the game you set out to balance. These updates should always have dealt only with the characters and parameters already found in the game.

    This patch, which required the waving about of quite a bit of cash and many silly tweets, will be the first of its kind that I can recall: a genuine balance patch delivered digitally by Capcom. They will receive no additional money, only customer loyalty and respect. Had they never considered weighing the balance of these things in the past?

    You know what…Capcom really needs to quit it with the patches for SF4 and just make SF5 already or something new, cuz its not like they can’t improve things in the sequel like most fighters OH WAIT :l

    1 – A company shouldn’t ever need to use exclamation points to tell their customers that the patch to fix a fighting game’s balance (That they charged people to break on purpose…) will be free. That should simply be assumed.

    2 – Fall or winter?! They can’t even assure me that this thing will be out before Christmas?

    bring back seth’s jump long arms, able to connect his stomping kicks anywhere from SSFIV.

    i would be sooo happy :D
