This Week In Unseen Sales: What Did PSP Owners Buy During Christmas Week?

Poor Frontier Gate didn’t make it into the top-20 sales chart during the week of its release. Instead, Media-Create’s top-50 report today reveals that Konami’s turn-based Monster Hunter-inspired PSP title debuted at the #26 position.

Still, the PSP itself sold an impressive 100,000 units the same week, even outselling the PlayStation Vita. Additionally, while a bunch of PSP owners bought Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha (about 57k sold), they picked up other PSP titles, too. So, what else did they buy?

#22. PowerPro Baseball 2011 Ketteiban (Konami) – New

#24. The Little Battlers Boost (Level 5)

#25. Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 (Konami)

#26. Frontier Gate (Konami) – New

(For reference, Mario Kart Wii, which was at #20, sold 43,752 copies)

That’s three Konami games, so I guess that makes them the unseen PSP champions of Christmas. Meanwhile, Vita software wasn’t as encouraging, but it is interesting to see which titles managed to stay in the top-50:

#37. Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational

#40. Uncharted: Golden Abyss

#44. Dynasty Warriors Next

#49. Lord of Apocalypse

I’m not surprised I’ve been put off TRi-Ace games after Star Ocean 4 and Resonance of Fate being blow-par for me at least. I guess this one won’t even see a English release.

i’m currently playing star ocean 4 and its not that bad, granted, the voice acting is just terrible, specially lymle but the gameplay mechanics seems to make up for that.at least for me right now,i could tell you later as i dig deeper in to the game if star ocean 4 is worse than i thought >_<!

Frontier Gate, less then 40 000 copies? That is very surprising, I thought it would do pretty well, at least not very bad, but THAT bad. Do Japanese gamers completely lost trusts for Tri-Ace?
Hopefully Genso Suikoden will do better.

Club HSG still being the big seller for Vita is nice, hope that gives them support to keep the series alive, and hm, maybe another endeavour in Tennis please too.

so,the vita is still under-performing….the price-tag could be the main issue as to why the vita is doing the way is doing.also,i dont expect it to sell well here in the west for the same reason….until a price drop ala ninty that is!

Believe it has to do more with it being a new handheld, it’s biggest competitor is not the 3DS, it’s in fact the PSP. 2012 is full of PSP titles in Japan, in the West it could do better since there’s only 3 more PSP games I believe. Needs more JRPGs and other games that cater the Japanese audience for them to make the switch.

Nope, the vita is not selling well because it has no strong games at all so far, and it won’t have for some time. Even if sony cuts the price it won’t matter, at the end the shocking truth is very simple: games sell consoles. Sony truly needs to worry, because this is the same psp route all over again.

Well the Vita was like a must buy for me, I see why people don’t buy it but I had no PSP or PS1 or PS2 so theres so much to play on it it’s just silly.

With these games sells we could see the Vita selling around 40,000 to 50,000 next week.
