Rumour: New Play Control! Pikmin 2 Will Be A Late Bloomer In North America

By Ishaan . April 24, 2012 . 4:00pm

The latest of Nintendo Power magazine claims that a Nintendo Wii game is headed to North America three years after its European release. No, it’s not Disaster: Day of Crisis or Another Code: R—it’s New Play Control! Pikmin 2.

This is a modified Wii port of the Gamecube game, with support for the Wii Remote. A Wii port of the first Pikmin game was released as New Play Control! Pikmin in both North America and Europe, but the Pikmin 2 port never made it to the U.S.

In other Pikmin-related news, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto recently confirmed that they will be showing a brand new Pikmin game at this year’s E3.

This is great news. The Gamecube version is quite rare now, even up to 60$ for a used copy(Mostly just the disc). So for the folks who missed out on the Gamecube version back in the day can finally be able to enjoy it at a fair price. Also it’s good that we didn’t have to beg for it either. Of coarse if the rumor is true.

I missed out on getting Pikmin 2 for the Gamecube so this is an excellent way to finally try it out! I’ve only rented Pikmin 1 for the Gamecube and beaten, but I’ve never bought it which I regret not doing so.

So I might just get it so enough! This is great news!

Three years? Seriously? Of all the games, why wouldn’t they bother with a re-release of Pikmin 2 for three years?

It’s likely they only care about it now to try and drum up interest in Pikmin before the E3 reveal of the Wii U one, but this still baffles me. Do NOA operate under “Not a million seller, don’t bother?”.

Sorry, but I’ll be a victim of their marketing campaign. I have no regrets.

Well, it was a remake to begin with you know?  What so different about releasing Pikmin 2 with a new control scheme 5 years after Pikmin 2 first came out or 8?  The game was never going to be a big new thing.

I guess Nintendo is finally in the ‘Eh, what the hell?’ phase they tend to enter at the end of their console’s lifespans.

  • James Beatty

Well, i guess it’s meant to increase interest for the 3rd installment on the Wii U while having a game that people want to play other than xenoblade, the last story, and pandora’s tower. Now, lets see rodea…

Then maybe I can finally beat this game!

I am ready its madness how expensive the GC version is. $29 or lower please. Heck for waiting three years it should be $19.99 but it ain’t happening I know.

This is the sort of situation that the phrase “too little, too late” is perfect for.

    Come on, Pikmin 3…

  • boundries_san

Good marketing schemes here by NoA especially Nintendo wanted to increase the awareness for Pikmin 3 in the future.

And this game will also attract those people who miss this title on Gamecube. Hope that gamer will be able to enjoy this game.^^
