My Little Sister Sequel Sold Through Most Of Its Shipment

By Ishaan . May 25, 2012 . 1:00pm

The week of its release, Namco Bandai’s My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute Portable Can’t Possibly Continue was the top-selling game in Japan, with 53,175 copies sold. Is that good?

Sales tracker, Media Create, says yes. In their weekly report, Media Create say that, while the game didn’t sell as much as the original My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute Portable, it still saw a high sellthrough. Can’t Possibly Continue sold through 80.31% of its shipment.

For reference, the original My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute Portable sold 88,000 copies in its first week, which was an 88.03% sellthrough.

Unfortunately, Media Create did not provide shipment numbers for the PSP version of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, which saw quite the drop in sales compared to Persona 2: Innocent Sin on the same platform.

  • No surprise here.

I admit I’ve watched the show back then and it was quite enjoyable. *blushes*

    • You have good taste my friend.

    • I admire your taste, brother. Long-haired Manami was pretty cute in this game, though.

    • boundries_san

Kuroneko herself makes purchasing this game worth it.^^

  • RaikageV

It sounds as if there would be an English version; you should’ve used the Japanese name.

  • Herok ♞

lovely news and I hope persona does better.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

I honestly hate how popular this series has become. I mean, c’mon. I know, people are allowed to like whatever they want and opinions and all that but its quite sickening to me. And I just finished re-watching ep 14 of K-On for the 4th time.

    • Luna Kazemaru

Watching K-on eh? How is that tea doing?

      • FitzpatrickPhillips

    • Kefkiroth

You watch K-On yet not like Oreimo?
      Does not compute…

      • FitzpatrickPhillips

One is clever, funny, filled with good music and has great characters all around. The other one is about a retarded and the only good char takes the back seat.

        •  Both are horrible and had their fanboys, deal with it.

          • FitzpatrickPhillips

I can see how both can be considered terrible but Oremo is definitely the biggest evil. I wish papakiki was this well known – it’s actually good.

          • Kefkiroth

Thing is, papakiki is not as “loli moe bait” as the other two, and thus would get less fanboys.
That said, I enjoyed both Oreimo and K-On for different reasons.

          • Kevadu

Papakiki is *terrible*.  Easily the worst of the three properties you’ve mentioned.  I can’t for the life of me figure out why you would recommend it…

OreImo is a funny and clever series that pokes a lot of fun at otaku culture.  Maybe you’re just not familiar enogh with the subject matter to get the jokes. And to Kefkiroth, WTF are you talking about?  Papakiki has *far* more “loli moe bait” as you call it than either K-On or OreImo.  It’s outright creepy.

          • mirumu

While I cannot understand any way in which K-On is superior to Oremo, I can understand a bit where you’re coming from with Papakiki. It’s less exploitative with a more serious story, and doesn’t have anywhere near the fan pandering than the other two. For those reasons it had less appeal to the loll/moe fanbase, and I can only assume D K must have barely watched it. That along with the fact it didn’t really have enough content to pad out a season though meant it was always going to have a smaller following.

I wouldn’t go as far as calling Papakiki good, but I’d take it over K-On any day. Oremo at least had some clever in-jokes to carry it as D K says.

          • M’iau M’iaut

@mirumu:disqus Papakiki’s loli/moe bait rep comes not from the story, the girls  or even the trope college pervert. It was those darn end splash artworks, where each girl was shown in a pose that truly did not match the tone of the show itself.

          • boundries_san

Well i thought PapaKiki VN is much better here? As at least the ending all is good especially Hina’s path.^^

        • boundries_san

K-ON filled with good music? I thought i tried watching the second season like almost 5 or 6 episode yet not songs come out? Only girl sittng and chatting here?

          • FitzpatrickPhillips

If you do a quick search on how many K-ON albums are available, you’ll be surprised then.

          • boundries_san

But most of the albums comes from S1 here and about S2, it is funny that half the show, it is about sittng and speaking here. At least PapaKiki gives the MC problem that he must solve.

Even Oreimo itselfs show how the MC had a secret with her little sister.

    • AuraGuyChris

So, it’s My Little Pony’s Japan version?

Both sound pretty similar in titles…

  • cj_iwakura

Uh, is the game even worth playing, or is this a kusoge selling off brand recognition? To say this is a better game than Persona 2 EP sounds borderline ridiculous.

    • kroufonz

to say oreimo a kusoge sounds as riduculous as people that comparing whole different game from different genre

      • KuroiKen

Yeah, I too always get surprised how people can compare things that are completely different, with only 1 or 2 parameters that can be compared.
Like comparing a cat to a bookshelf, seriously.
VN and jRPG can only be compared by storyline factor, and VNs would probably beat the crap out of jRPGs, since VN is a genre that doesn’t have anything but storyline.

    • All the anime VN namco bandai has made so far have been perfect, if you are a fan of the series, i can say this from first hand experience, being their best piece tora dora

      • boundries_san

I love PapaKiki more here lol. Even if i only had one preg end, Hina end is just so sweeeeeeeeet.^^

    • boundries_san

Lol. At least this is a new game here. While Persona 2 is a remake series which we believe will not be sometimes will not be able to attract some of the new fans here.(Especially with 2 on the title.)

  • KuroiKen

Well, Batsu is not as good as Tsumi, so sales drop would be pretty much expected, if you’re not an idiot.

And OreImo selling well is expected as well, nothing surprising, considering everything about it.
Those wondering if it’s a “better game” should go read the FAQs, since it’s a kind of dating simulator visual novel, so you can’t compare it to jRPG or action in tems of being “better” or not, because that is purely subjective opinion of a person, since there are people liking VNs and hating jRPG for some reason(I know some).

    • I don’t think that Batsu is worse yet I think it has less impact knowing that is pretty much the same game that Tsumi was. Oreimo is popular, not surprise there.

    • Barrylocke89

Personally I think Batsu is superior to Tsumi. But the games are similar enough that those people that may have tried out Tsumi and didn’t care for it probably decided to not get Batsu.

    • amagidyne

You use the word “people” as if those people are human beings.

    • cj_iwakura

Batsu is far superior to Tsumi, IMO. Harder game, branching paths, more to do, EX boss. Arguably better story; at least I liked it more.

  • Well, ignoring noob comments from people that obviously havent seen the game’s story that well, tho, who can blame them because the tittle does make one misjudge it. The game was really well made, tho, the extra UMD’s stories, some were too short, others were really good, and made the first game (that is actually the first disc of this game, but with some enchantments) even more complete.

For people that really know the story and like it, its a really nice and complete game, considering is hard to see an ending with the girl you want these days, or at least a closed ending (the light novel’s story is pointing to an open ending so far), so is awesome that i can see how it would had turned if the MC would had gone with this girl, and you can learn more of her because, i dont know, she didnt got enough attention on the anime, so far namco bandai has made anything but awesome VN that come from the anime, hope to see a new one soon.

    • boundries_san

Yup at least someone who understand that some of the VN based on anime series release is really worth the buy.

    •  That, and you can get them pregnant and start a family.

      • That kind of stuff seems to be appearing more on galge VNs lately…, but well, it isnt bad, at least it hasnt happened while the chars are on school or something lol

  • boundries_san

I don’t know why people is getting upset for this game selling more than Persona 2 lol.

While this is a simple VN which attracts their anime or Light novel fanbase, it is not suprising that this game will sell better than Persona 2 remake here. Seeing how the (2) can scare new comers and probably some older players who already played the previous version does not care about the remake can easily makes the game sales lesser.

  • Setsuna ♥

A game with my waifu in it will always be number 1 ~

    • >Continue to believe Kirino your Waifu

She already taken by John. >:)

      • Setsuna ♥

Pfttt yours is a fake, John is such a normal boring name anyway :p

        • I don’t really mind what people say about my name, since (probably) half the human population is named “John”, “Johnny”, “Johnathan”, etc etc etc. I’m well aware of this, but that didn’t stop Kirino from going to America~

          >Mines is fake

Being delusional will get you no where “Azure” (If that’s really your name?), come talk to me when you prove your dedication to Kirino the same level I do (Aka fan of the series) >:3

  • Why u no available 4 eng speaking fanboy?

  • Göran Isacson

Just out of curiosity, if anyone’s even reading this article anymore… what’s the story in this game? Is it essentially a retelling of the light novels/anime story, or is it some kind of sequel or spin-off story?

  • 4shiki

    Manami ftw!

  • ‘sighs’

sometimez i wonda about you humiez.
