Tokyo Jungle Sells Through 87% Of Its Shipment

By Ishaan . June 15, 2012 . 2:05pm

Post-apocalyptic animal adventure, Tokyo Jungle, surprised everyone by selling over 110,000 copies in its opening week in Japan. That sounds like a nice, round number, but to put it in context, we’d need to know how many copies Sony managed to ship to retailers. Luckily, sales tracker, Media Create, provided that information today.

Media Create report that Tokyo Jungle sold through 87.47% of its shipment. That’s a high sell-through number and indicates that the game performed well.

Meanwhile, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny on the PlayStation Vita sold approximately 40,300 copies. That’s a 68.26% sell-through.

    Thought it was a DL?

It’s going to be released as a PSN title in the West, but because of a number of factors (primarily convenience) even games like this get disc releases in Japan.

nice, is there a release date already? I was going to import it, never thought that it would be released outside japan

As far as I’m aware, there hasn’t been anything specific but it’s on track for later this year.

I don’t think it was ever originally a download-only title in Japan. I’d always assumed it was going to be retail since the Japanese download edition was announced fairly late. In fact, I don’t think they even ever stated if it was getting a digital-only release in the initial announcement of the game for worldwide release.

They mention PSN here but I think that their facts are a bit off considering that it was not originally meant to release on the PSN in Japan.

    Hooray >w<~! Awesome to hear it did really well, this is that kind of old school niche title that is all too rare now a days, and it's great to see it find success uwu;; Also great sales like this has likely sealed the deal for localization in Europe and North America, so hopefully it won't go the way of Malicious uwu;

I wanted to get gundam for the vita but i was worried it would play like gundam memories for the psp. I need to watch some more gameplay videos. Also that Tokyo jungle cover is stalking me now :(

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Haha. I haven’t been reading many articles on Tokyo Jungle. Not even sure what it is.
    Time to catch up!

Yup, 40K still for Vita titles, Persona 4 will get higher numbers though this week. Also this Gundam Vita debut is higher than the one on the PSP, at a time when the PSP had a larger audience and the Vita’s is smaller.

I’d like to know what the attach-rate is for Vita games. I bought 5 Vita games myself just this week and like 6 minis.

Media Create did say that but I thought the comparison was irrelevant, since timing, circumstances and the popularity of each Gundam series are all likely factors that influence the sales of the games.

Of course they have been airing Gundam SEED again, but it is not the same as when it debuted with a larger audience and sold less.

I was going to pick up Battle Destiny as well till I read that you can’t boost and shoot at the same time, which is kind of a let down .

  • Solomon_Kano

Oh wow, that’s great. I hope it continues to sell well. Concepts like this deserve success.

On another note, I think I might have to import Seed Destiny.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Great job for Tokyo Jungle there.^^ Considering that games looks very interesting for me.^^
However i am qute shock with how Gundam Seed series sells there. Considering at this time, Gundam Seed HD Remaster is still running on the TV and also Gundam Age to add more Gundam influence there. I thought they will be able to sell a bit more there.T_T
