Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate On Wii U To Support USB Keyboards For Chat

By Ishaan . January 15, 2013 . 4:50pm

When Capcom released Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U in Japan, the game allowed players to use the Wii U GamePad as a virtual keyboard, but didn’t support USB keyboards at launch. Then, Capcom announced that the game would be patched to include USB keyboard support.

This feature will be included in the U.S. release, too. Capcom’s Senior VP, Christian Svensson, shared on the company forums: “I’ve just been told by the [product manager] that there will be a day 1 update that will add functionality to support USB keyboards for chat.”

In the same forum post, Svensson also hints that Capcom will soon share “other news” on communication methods supported in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate as well.

Hopefully, that refers to voice chat, which is a feature that series producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto, has stated in the past Capcom were considering. Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii supported voice chat as well.

If they add voice chat I hope you can mute the annoying people who join your rooms playing shitty music in the background or won’t shut up. It’d be nice to have in game chat for it instead of having to log on skype with it to chat with friends.

Funny enough i don’t think i ran into anyone that used voice chat in Tri…. maybe i was just lucky/unlucky? XD

      • Barrylocke89

Likewise, when I had played Tri online, everyone used either keyboards or the ingame thing

      • Because it was annoying to setup the hardware required to voice chat. Even worst both users had to have it. So even if one had it you still couldn’t hear him.

I wish the Wii U had party chat/voice chat similar to the Xbox 360 then it wouldn’t be so troublesome.

    • DualCell

Yeah I hate when people play their music while playing a game, put on some headphones you idiot! How are you listening to game music, your music and talking all at once…. >_> Really…..

  • riceisnice

Haha,.. No one’s gonna want to hear my voice. I think I’ll just stick to the keyboard.

  • I sure wish the rest of the Wii U system software supported USB keyboard. Even the Wii browser had keyboard support.

Good if they get voice chat in, even if I won’t personally go for it, it should help encourage more people to check out MH. If voice chat is ever added, I hope they do something like set up designated voice chat users only servers and cities, so people like me won’t get constantly shunned from others who only want to co-op with players who do voice chat.

I’m quite cynical about voice chatting, which is why won’t utilize it, and believe me, I’ve tried it. Feels like giving my phone number to thousands of nerds, jerks, brats, attention seekers, and (last but not least) privileged snobs who will give you nonstop crap just because you speak with even the slightest inkling of an accent.

Still, USB keyboard support is much appreciated, and I hope more communication options are sensibly patched in the future.

  • Glad to get clarification for that. I should probably spend the next couple months finishing other games because once this drops, it will be the only thing I play for months. Or at least until FFXIV ARR.

Ishaan (or anyone else), do you know if there will be separate servers for North America / Europe / Japan again, or can we finally go global?

  • What?! Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate didn’t have keyboard support initially? That is horrible. Poor japanese gamers. Although now that I think about it….It probably is because you can use the gamepad touchpad keyboard and that’s alright. Frankly I would prefer voice to keyboard. *gets charged by a boss monster while looking down to warn someone on the keyboard*

    Good news.

  • plsburydoughboy

Goddamit, if they can add USB keyboard support, they can add standard USB controller support. Let us play games on our older controllers Nintendo!

  • imtheone

Fantastic. Much convenient for communicating other players.
