Tetsuya Nomura Would Like To Add Star Wars To Kingdom Hearts III

By Ishaan . July 8, 2013 . 11:50am

Kingdom Hearts III director Tetsuya Nomura would like to add Star Wars characters to Kingdom Hearts III, he recently shared in an interview with French Final Fantasy fansite Finaland at Japan Expo.

This is under consideration because, as you may have heard, earlier this year, Disney bought Lucasfilm, the company founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas.

Nomura replied to the question after the interviewer pointed out that Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase is a fan of the Star Wars franchise. Said Nomura, “We’re not going to decide it whether Kitase-san likes Star Wars or not but we’ve been talking about Star Wars itself since it became Disney’s content recently.”

“When I heard the news I was like “Wow! Wow!” Yeah, obviously it’s gonna be great if we could add it, but like I said, there are a lot of restrictions and rules by Disney so we don’t know what’s gonna happen, but yeah, we’ll see.”

    somebody… anybody… stop him…

    • M’iau M’iaut

Nomura? One doesn’t just stop Nomura.

      • malek86

Even if your quote was slightly wrong, I can see that you also want to see LOTR added to the mix.

        • fayt255

Well I never thought of that but hmm…..

      • Chiupon

        jedi host club

    • brandon

Blame Disney. Anything big they make or do is bound to fuel Nomura’s imagination :)

On the other hand, I’m surprised they went this far along without adding Pixar worlds.

    • Lightsaber Keyblade. Thass all. :D

      • whatinthewolrd

        faux yes

      • EtherealEarth

Now that you mention it, would the Lightsaber be able to cut through Keyblade like hot cake? DX

        • Dylan Neill

No, the keyblade is made with THE POWER OF LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP!!!

        • Fitzkrieg

Considering that lightsabers can’t cut through wooden poles in Soulcalibur IV, I think a keyblade will be fine, no matter what it may be made of.

    • Warboss Aohd

      let’s not

  • Hollowkoopa

If Sora ends up with a Lightsaber Keyblade i would be totally onboard with this.

  • KHSoraKeyBlade

I could deal with TWEWY in the series to shake things up but Star Wars (and Marvel) should stay out of the series. The Disney side still has so much potential with worlds like Robin Hood, Jungle Book, etc. still there to be used.

That’s just my opinion any ways.

    • Suriel Cruz

I agree with you in some parts, but I would really like to see Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts and NOT Marvel. That is because Marvel have its own AMAZING and HUGE Universe, but Star Wars is SOO MUCH LIKEABLE in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, since we already got Space Ships to travel around the worlds. It would be cool, to even enter the world of Star Wars and fight Darth Vader and even resolve a great conflict, those that only Star Wars know.

Do you imagine Sora, Riku and Mickey with coats and Light Keyblade Sabers?… “WOW!!” -mental image-

ps. We already got Pirates of the Caribbean & Tron World , so why not Star Wars too? This is the GREAT/AMAZING thing about Kingdom Hearts, that it unites different worlds and fans. ^ ^

      • KHSoraKeyBlade

I see your point and don’t get me wrong I really like Star Wars and the thought of a lightsaber keyblade is insanely cool but I think if there were to be new worlds that are not an original or Disney related then at least give Final Fantasy some love in that department as it has been long overdue. The difference with PotC and Tron is that they are actual Disney films and films like The Lone Ranger and John Carter (both awful films) can be associated with that label.

I’d really love a Pixar world (Toy Story to be more specific) but that’s as far as I would want them to go mainly because I want to see more new Disney worlds in the series.

I guess I just don’t want the series to be a clusterfuck of a crossover…. But again each to their own.

        • Suriel Cruz

          Indeed! ^ ^
Anyways with or without Star Wars, I will play Kingdom Hearts 3, no doubt.

        • Ric Vazquez

I agree dude, Kingdom Hearts with Final Fantasy worlds would have been a much superior game

    • Anime10121

Agreed, keep the newbie’s (Star Wars/Marvel) outta mah Kingdom Hearts! Would be awesome if that new pitch for an animated movie “The Stooge” that reunites Roger Rabbit and Mickey Mouse goes through and Roger Rabbit makes it in though!

      For those unaware

  • Nitraion

    Lightsaber keyblade confirmed…
    Hope make that “Swoon” sound

    • Suriel Cruz

      …and clashing! *_*

  • Well if they were able to add Pirates of the Caribbean and make it work, they could probably make it work for Star Wars as well.

The only real sad part here is the fact that I still haven’t seen Star Wars :/

I understand how some people are concerned though. If they just throw in different universes randomly, it could take away the focus of what Kingdom Hearts is about.

  • h4mx0r

    Jar Jar Binks incoming

    • whatinthewolrd

I love that rat to death.

    • MasterScrub

Along with the Star Wars world ACTUALLY being a Pod Racing minigame world.

  • Surgeon of Death

Mickey vs Yoda. MAKE. IT. HAPPEN.

  • Suriel Cruz

That fight we’ve all been waiting for(at least me!)… Sephiroth vs Darth Vader! O_O

    • Darth my good sir and the fight we’ve all been waiting for has been seifer vs squall lol

      • Suriel Cruz

        LO’L! xD

  • MikeTxn

I’ll be disappointed if this doesn’t have a 2vs2 against Palpatine and Xehanort.

    • Sardorim

Pretty sure they’re going to have Sora + Friendship vs Xehanort as the last battle…

Still, I can’t wait to see the 7 Lights vs 13 Darknesses! Bout time Kairi fought for realz and for Aqua to show the new generation how a Keyblade Master gets things done.

  • Ty Austin

The only way I would like to see this would be after Disney brings out the first new Star Wars movie. Then only include that world in KH. They did it with Pirates, I could see them make it work with SW.

Just don’t do anything involving the past movies, Disney didn’t make them, so they shouldn’t be in.

  • I want Pixar stuff too if Star Wars shows up. Indiana Jones as well.

  • Nyandroid

I’ve never gotten into Star Wars. So this kind of meh to me. Still happy they are working on adding new worlds though. =^w^=~

  • Ninastars

Star Wars sounds like it’d be on the same line as the Tron and PotC worlds as in that one world that differs in style slightly. I think it could work actually.

  • Elemiel

I don’t know how to feel; on one hand a lightsaber keyblade would be freaking cool, but on the other hand I can’t really see it since the Star Wars setting is an entire galaxy (or something along the lines of that) while KH seems to be in its own. @[email protected]

  • rorschacht

    Don’t forget marvel….Sora vs Galactus?

    • Guest

      Dude, that’s Marvel.

      • Which is property of Disney

        • Sardorim

Disney has snatched a lot of things up, eh?

  • Grape Monet

Okay, so assuming Eraqus is in Kingdom Hearts III (and he probably is), and they get Mark Hamill to voice him again, and if they include Luke Skywalker… could they convince him to voice Luke as well?

  • brandon

Well, after the inclusion of TRON in DDD, anything’s possible!

Though I will say that I have a harder time seeing anything Marvel being included in KH3. Star Wars would be amusing if included, but Marvel already has a large and strange enough universe (not to mention a HUGE library of charactors) without throwing KH into the mix.

If they manage to fit Marvel in in a way that makes since with the plot, I’ll be somewhat happy to eat my words. Same goes for SW.

  • Shinobikens

This honestly doesn’t need to happen

  • Hat

If it is at all indicative of a bad idea, not a single person in this comment section spelled Darth Vader correctly.
These are two crowds that won’t mix well.

  • Lemon

I object not only because bringing lightsabers into the KH world will be very strange, but also that it’ll upset our perception of what is ‘stronger’ than another thing even more.

    • Sardorim

They already have Lightsaber like weapons already. Look at Xenmas and “Unknown” in Birth By Sleep.

  • ragingmerifes

    That’d be cool.
But do you know what would also be cool? Square Enix worlds, too.
Like Ivalice, Deus Ex’s world or stuff like that.

    • Solomon_Kano

I’d take Square Enix worlds before we see them start going out to Star Wars and Marvel. I wouldn’t go for Deus Ex, but the worlds from SEJ would be nice to see.

We’ve already got FF characters and TWEWY characters, so, sure, let’s get a SE world or two.

      • Ferrick

i would love to see shibuya as one of the settings

        • Solomon_Kano

Since the TWEWY characters are in Traverse Town, I’d presume Shibuya’s gone. Haven’t played 3D yet, but all the prior characters had been displaced because their worlds were destroyed.

          • Anime10121

Just gonna say, play 3D, their world may or may not be gone, but just, play 3D :)

          • Solomon_Kano

            In time, in time.

      • Zero_Destiny

Am I the only one who ever secretly wanted Dragon Quest in Kingdom Hearts after their merger? D:

        • Solomon_Kano

Certainly not! I got into Dragon Quest with 8 on PS2 and thought the series would make a cool addition. I mean, at least cameo a Slime…

          • Anime10121

…(though Dragon Quest 8 was awesome)

          • Solomon_Kano

    • Guest

A Tomb Raider world with a guest appearance of Indiana Jones xD

  • EX+

I really don’t think that Stars wars or any marvel franchise would fit. It’d look outta place. Pirates of the Caribbean was handled well, because it has a light hearted and sometimes switches to dark feel to it that matches the tone of Kingdom Hearts. That’s what every Disney thing (apart from their live action BS) has. Star Wars? Nuh-uh.

    • Ninastars

“Pirates of the Caribbean was handled well, because it has a light hearted and sometimes switches to dark feel”

So basically just like Star Wars, mostly a lighthearted adventure story with themes regarding darkness that’d sound like just out of Kingdom Hearts. It’d fit very well actually considering it uses a lot of the same themes. Also a Darth Vader/Terra parallel is just asking to happen somehow.

      • Solomon_Kano

        Xehanort is totes the Emperor.

      • EX+

But the art style for star wars and even pirates of the Caribbean… the new graphics will make them seem real and that will NEVER fit with KH.

    • Solomon_Kano

Even though I’m 435% against any Marvel characters EVER showing up in Kingdom Hearts, I think Deadpool could seriously work. His entire shtick is breaking the fourth wall, so while we’re like “Why is he even here?” he’d be asking that himself. Also, he could totes riff on KH from within the game.

But I still don’t want any Marvel characters.

      • Fidelis

I’d prefer if that didn’t happen.

The fourth wall isn’t really his entire stick

And I feel like an appearance in kingdom hearts wouldn’t be able to delve into the character deep enough to get past all the “zany”

I’m hoping for a bit of damage control for the character in alternative forms of media..the comics have really been taking steps in the right direction, but the game negated it..

        • Solomon_Kano

I know it’s not his entire thing, but it’s the thing that could make him work in KH for me.

KH has never really been about delving into the characters it includes, so that’d leave him in line with everybody else.

I can understand what you mean though. DP’s appearances in other media have largely misrepresented him (though the comics did that for years as well).

    • whatinthewolrd

Oh and Final Fantasy does so well? Marvel, the CARTOON fits very much. I don’t want to see Hercules again, they need a new hero’s training, a different light.

  • AuraGuyChris

    Star Wars?

Dear god, this isn’t going to be a Disney x Final Fantasy game anymore if it happens. I’d accept Pixar because Disney has sadly moved on from 2D movies ever since The Princess & The Frog, but this doesn’t blend in well. Also, Marvel. Don’t even think about going that far.

Learn from Sakurai and Smash Bros.

    • Kaihedgie

      “Disney x Final Fantasy game”

I’m guessing you all suddenly blanked out on the very recent KH3D or something which featured absolutely no FF characters whatsoever

    • DivinePhoenix69

Im pretty sure that line was blurred once TWEWY characters were included in DDD.

      • AuraGuyChris

That one was understandable because of how everyone related KH to TWEWY in some incredible fashion, even Nomura himself.
It’s like Disney could use Pixar and Squenix could use TWEWY. Star Wars never was part of Disney before the merging, but even then, it feels completely out there.

        • Kaihedgie

Completely out there.. yet you’re disregarding the themes and elements Star Wars is famous for, even to the point of Nomura specifically choosing Mark Hamill to voice one of the characters because of his role in Star Wars

  • Sardorim

I’m fine with this if I get to fight the Emperor and Darth Vader.

  • Solomon_Kano

    Don’t cross the streams!

Seriously. Please, no. No Star Wars, no Marvel. Honestly, I don’t even want Pixar. There’s still so much from Disney’s own animation history (and not their acquired arms’ histories, either) that they can mine.

Edit: no Muppets either, even if Kermit is cool as hell.

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Sorry, I agree on all of that but the exclusion of Pixar. I think there’s been enough success and popularity behind the studio’s movies to make some good worlds there.

      • Solomon_Kano

Success and popularity, no doubt, I just wouldn’t want to see them included. I personally can’t find any appeal in, say, a Finding Nemo world or an Incredibles world (and I LOVE that movie).

The only Pixar world I would accept would be Toy Story. Sora and co. being mistaken for new toys would be brilliant.

        • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Finding Nemo/Dory is too close to The Little Mermaid, so (imo) that should be out.
The Incredibles could work (as could Monsters Inc. or Wall-E).
Cars (and the upcoming Planes) would be kinda weird for general gameplay but could work for mini-games.

That’s just a few movies but there’s some plausible stuff to use there.

          • Solomon_Kano

Again, I’m not saying they’re implausible or anything, I just wouldn’t find their inclusion appealing.

I like Pixar’s films, but I just don’t feel they’re right for KH. Not with all the other Disney stuff out there.

          • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I guess, but no Muppets? Sorry, but them’s fighting words! D=<

          • Solomon_Kano

Okay, I take it back. Miss Piggy would be a great summon.

        • DivinePhoenix69

iirc Buzz and Woody were originally intended to be included as summons in KH2:FM, so any world based off of pixar films is still likely to happen

          • Solomon_Kano

Yea, I remember. I’m sure it’s likely, I just personally wouldn’t be in favor of Pixar’s inclusion. Again, barring that exception.

        • Anime10121

Agree, though I’d love an Incredibles world too, that and Toy Story are the only Pixar worlds that would “fit” Kingdom Hearts.

          • Solomon_Kano

The Incredibles would feel odd to me, given it’s set in the “real world”. That’s a large part of why KH2’s PotC world didn’t work for me either. When Sora and co. show up in Mulan or Aladdin, for example, there’s already magic, already monsters (if you wanna call Djinns and dragons that). But having them appear in “reality” would be weird. The Incredibles live in a world with superpowers, but not one of magic or giant talking animals or anime hair. Tron even worked out, since they were in a video game.

The Incredibles is exacerbated, for me, by them being superheroes. I just can’t reconcile KH to that concept on any level, whether it were them or a group of Marvel heroes who made the appearance. That’s just me though.

          • Anime10121

I understand where you’re coming from, as Incredibles would almost be like the addition of Marvel worlds/characters (which I DO NOT WANT), but I just think the art styles would go great with one another! Plus, I just love the Incredibles, (probably my favorite Pixar movie besides the Toy Story Franchise).

          • Solomon_Kano

Incredibles is hands-down my favorite Pixar film (Toy Story 3 being #2), but I just couldn’t do it lol. Seeing a KH world with some Art Deco inspiration would be nice though… well, Darkwing Duck’s still an option. :D

No, seriously, I’ve been asking for that for ages. Launchpad McQuack best party member ever.

          • Anime10121

Darkwing Duck was one of my favorite tunes as a kid! Still remember it airing on USA’s cartoon block right before Sailor Moon :D

I approve of Darkwing Duck making it in! Hell Scrooge and his nephews made it, so why not :D

          • Solomon_Kano

Still got that theme song stuck in my head.

            “Let’s. Get. Dangerous.”

        • Suzaku

If they include Toy Story, Sora and co. should be rendered as Play Arts figures. Period.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Oh my Lord, someone save him! Lil’ Nomura-kun’s jumped off the deep end!!!

…in other words, No, Nomura, just No…

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

KH3 must have a darkness counter if this happens

  • Brandonmkii

If they do go that route, I feel the best thing to do would be to use the setting/characters from the Clone Wars cartoon. Kinda kid-friendly and leaves them more room to do stuff, without irking older fans.

    • Kaihedgie

Clone Wars is far from kiddy

  • Like most commenters I have little faith that the squareenix of today could implement star wars into the KH universe well, but you never know they might give us some cool lightsaber battles

  • Judgephoenix

I would rather them not waste room with Star Wars there are “PLENTY’ of Disney/SE characters I rather see make it into the game.

  • Zero_Destiny

I see Nomura, I see. Kingdom Hearts 3, sowing the seeds for Star Ocean vs. Star Wars. *nods*

Just the reboot Star Ocean needed.

    • Solomon_Kano

      • Christopher Nunes

I would love to see another Star Ocean game, especially taking place after Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time.

        • Solomon_Kano

Well, Square Enix recently trademarked Star Ocean again, so I’d presume a new game is coming at some point. TGS, perhaps.

          • Zero_Destiny

Yeah on a serious note it would be great to see a new Star Ocean, they kinda burned themselves out after SO3 and had to go the prequel route for SO4, then we haven’t really gotten much outta SO since.

Hoping the new trademark will be signs of a full game but the pessimistic side of me says it’ll be a phone social game. lol But there’s still hope, and hey, maybe even if it’s a social game it at least shows SE are aware the franchise still exist, they just gotta figure out what to do with it.

          • Solomon_Kano

maybe even if it’s a social game it at least shows SE are aware the franchise still exist, they just gotta figure out what to do with it.

I don’t like to be pessimistic, but I tried that logic when Capcom did an Onimusha social game and got nothing for it lol. I’m expecting this trademark won’t be a social game though. Expecting largely meaning I’m just willing really hard for it not to be one lol.

I figure tri-Ace could always just take the FF approach and distance a new SO’s story from the others entirely after the hole they dug themselves into.

          • Zero_Destiny

The pain of hoping a franchise you like will come back, we’ve all been there, I’ve been there way too often myself. >__<

People like to talk about Star Ocean just retconing 3 or pretending the ending never happened to get around it. lol Who knows though, if Square-Enix and Tri-Ace thinks they can make money off another game they'll probably try it. All we can really do is just wait it out and see what the future will bring, give what support you can to the franchise too. Worst comes to worst I can get back to playing SO2 again, or the zillion other games that were already made and I own but haven't beaten yet. But maybe I'll just play SO2 again anyways. :P

          • Anime10121

@Solomon_Kano:disqus and @Zero_Destiny:disqus I never understood WHY the ending of 3 has to be the end of the Star Ocean continuity. SPOILERS FOR A 10 YEAR OLD GAME IN BOUND!!! Just because the ending of 3 basically destroyed the “4D game” and thusly the Star Ocean universe itself, didnt the ending to the game also suggest that the will of the inhabitants of the universe were so strong that the universe could continue without the interference of the 4D overlords?

Even still, couldnt we have a Star Ocean game placed in the 4D universe, it seems like it would be an excellent setting to me! I do know that Squeenix have said that SO3 was the last game in the series timeline, but I just dont understand WHY that has to be :(

          • Solomon_Kano

I suppose we could, but tri-Ace apparently doesn’t want that. So that’s really all we can say there.

          • Anime10121

            I guess :(

But then again, I’m willing to take a new Star Ocean no matter where it takes place in the timeline! I just always thought a sequel to 3 would be awesome, ESPECIALLY considering what was found out.

          • Solomon_Kano

I’d have been indifferent to them continuing from SO3. It wouldn’t have bothered me, but the thought wouldn’t have me hyped either.

With their unwillingness to touch that though, I wouldn’t be surprised if the new SO (pending it’s not a social game) were a reboot.

          • Solomon_Kano

Y’know, I still need to play SO2. Wanted to get Second Evolution, but my PSP ran into trouble. Pity it’s not on PSN so I could just play it on my Vita, but I guess I’ll have to get my PSP fixed or get a new one.

So, yea, I’ve certainly got stuff to occupy me until SE’s ready to bring Star Ocean back lol.

          • Zero_Destiny

Oh that’s a shame, it was a pretty rockin’ game back in the day. Still got my PSOne copy with Enix’s big E logo on the cover, feels so long ago now. lol

You know I never played the PSP version, the new artwork threw me off, just didn’t jive with me or look very Star Ocean-y to me, personally. But I always did kinda want to play it for the other improvements, never did though.

          • Solomon_Kano

Yea, I contemplated just picking up a PS1 copy a while back, but it seemed odd to do that when there’s an improved version lol.

          • Christopher Nunes

            I hope so! ^_^

      • Zero_Destiny

Star Ocears would be a better title.

        • Solomon_Kano

Stars Ocears, so people know there’s a whole lot of stars.

  • Kaihedgie
  • MakoSoldier7

    no. please, PLEASE no?
some of the magic of the series is from the blending of the two very different entities. anything else added in only risks diluting this.

    • Solomon_Kano

      TWEWY diluted KH?

      • MakoSoldier7

no, it didnt, but that isnt really the most apt example with TWEWY being a very simillar entity to kingdom hearts (as in a Japanese developed, story driven, action rpg, with nomura designed characters). Star wars is such a distinct and different animal, that it couldnt just be coupled along one of the two contrasting forces in the same way-it would become its own third party. I think this is also why we havent seen the pixar stuff used as a basis for worlds, because as great as some of them would be, they are designed with very different sensibilities than first party disney content, and they would FEEL different in the game. Along with those points, i just dont care for star wars, and while i know my opinion is a minority, with so much great disney (and FF for that matter) content still untapped, theres simply no need to reach into another universe. I would rather SE show us some FF themed worlds first. All my opinion though!

  • dragoon_slayer12

um, wasn’t birth by sleep Star Wars enough!!?? yeah, it’ll be cool to see a “light blade”, but come on!!!! if they add Star Wars, they HAVE to add Wolverine and/or Spider Man

  • Rocket D

I’m gonna be honest…I don’t like the idea at all. So many characters not used on both sides of original Disney and poor neglected Final Fantasy and Nomura wants to take a third part franchise into account? Doesn’t make sense to me…Not to mention it feelsl ike adding another realistic world would be strange. We had PotC and Tron Legacy, why another?

We haven’t seen an immersed experience with FF characters since KHII and after that FF characters have barely existed with the exception of very small cameos in the portable titles. (I have no clue why there weren’t any FF characters at Radiant Garden in BBS except it was Nomura’s preference to change focus there…) It’s not even equally DisneyxFinal Fantasy anymore at this point. If Nomura really wants to add something in let’s get some Final Fantasy worlds or original worlds with FF characters. I’m not hating on Star Wars as a franchise but it doesn’t seem to fit well and Nomura has plenty of neglected material on both sides of this collab to consider instead. KHIII should end the series with a bang and with characters from the companies that started it. Star Wars is a part of Disney now but so are Studio Ghilbi movies but we aren’t getting Totoro or the Catbus in the game :/

    • Solomon_Kano

Studio Ghibli is NOT part of Disney. It’s not an uncommon misconception, but their only relationship is that Disney distributes all of their movies in the west (well, that and that Disney of Japan’s former president is Ghibli’s current president).

      • Rocket D

With all due respect that was the point I was making. I know Disney doesn’t own Studio Ghilbi and only distributes the movies. I was making comparison based on Nomura’s logic. So Disney gains a license of something so it should be in KH just because of that? It seems kind of silly considering just how much material Disney and Final Fantasy has stand alone without branching off to newly acquired series whether owned or not, you know? But to add, I’m fully aware of what you said, was just basically making a point.

        • Solomon_Kano

          Ah, my bad then.

That said, that’s not quite the same, but I see where you’re going.

          • Rocket D

No worries, I reread my comment and realized it definitely sounded like I implied Studio Ghilbi is part of Disney. Sorry about that though thanks for understanding where I was going at too.

          • Solomon_Kano

            It’s cool, man.

    • brandon

While Disney is the mainline English distributor of Ghibli films, I still wouldn’t consider Ghibli ANYTHING to be a Disney property. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing a Pixar world get included (so long as it isn’t Cars), or experiment with lesser-known, underrated stuff like Treasure Planet. Maybe a world inspired by Mulan? More FF seems possible but anything pass FF7/8 is debatable (MAYBE FF12?).

      • Rocket D

I replied to Solomon_Kano explaining why I mentioned Studio Ghilbi. I’m fully aware of that and was making a point in comparison to Nomura’s logic. I wouldn’t mind Pixar as much either, great movies from them working together, and would prefer it over Star Wars any day. Not hating on Star Wars though but just hope it won’t be official. Plus, Pixar movies are pretty great (though I’m with you with exclusion of Cars…)

Exactly, Disney has so many amazing, underrated movies or some really great ones not even included that would fit the KH theme yet they are concerning over adding in Star Wars. It’s just kind of weird to me, you know?

True, not even sure how they would add in more FF but Nomura’s past reasons for not including older FF’s or Ivalice inspired titles would be because he didn’t like modifying another artist’s characters (although he did so for KHII for small cameos due to the request of fans I think?). It seems pointless to make that an excuse now considering he did the art for Dissidia games (even if he did base designs off their original designs he still had to modify them to an extent and in his style). There’s endless possibilities if they just tried concerning FF as well. If they do add Star Wars I just hope that means more of original Disney and FF so the cameos don’t overshadow what made the series.

    • KingRuff

Three things wrong with this. First, Kingdom Hearts was never, ever supposed to be DisneyxFinal Fantasy. Why do you think that they created original characters to begin with? Second wrong point, KH3 is not the end of the series, just the Xehanort Saga. According to Nomura, Sora will be back, and KH will continue. Lastly, even if you were trying to compare Nomura’s logic on Star Wars to Studio Ghibli, you specifically said Disney owns Studio Ghibli when in fact they don’t. That comparison doesn’t even make any sense. He wants Star Wars because Disney owns it. According to you that is the same as including Studio Ghibli because Disney is associated with it. Do you see the inconsistencies in your argument?

      • Rocket D

I already explained everything when replying to two others but seeing as you’re so passionate about your point I’ll explain again.

To further explain that was the point to my argument. Association, owning, whatever the case it’s acquired by Disney in some form but it doesn’t make it original Disney. If Disney suddenly owns another series/franchise like Looney Tunes (I know they don’t, just an example) do they need to add it to KH too? Not really, at least I don’t. My point was just because Disney suddenly owns a series/franchise doesn’t mean it has to be applied to KH and so suddenly. Especially when Disney and Final Fantasy games have much neglected material that could be used for the games. Again, I know it sounds like I implied Studio Ghilbi films is owned by Disney but I know it’s not and was explained to past comments that replied about the same manner in my comment. No point in editing my comment because then replies will be inconsistent and you know. I just left it alone but I can see how anyone would think that was my thought on Studio Ghilbi movies.

Also, actually it was suppose to be. At least, that’s how it started/seemed.The very raw idea of KH was DisneyxFF at least based on the interviews of the first KH and how the idea came to light with Nomura by chance meeting in an elevator with someone at Disney and pitched the idea. Obviously, that idea evolved as the series did and it’s more general. Adding in original characters so not mean it wasn’t meant to be a collab between DisneyxFF. It was a basic story idea of Nomura’s character immersed in Disney worlds with Final Fantasy elements and FF cameos. And even if not it started off that way and if it was to be more or less than that then why have FF characters at all? It doesn’t make sense to say it wasn’t meant to be that way when it started that way (and continued that way for so long until recently with portables with less FF and more original story elements) but then again I don’t know solid details like that, I just know what I see and read. I just remember articles but I don’t exactly have links to them to back up why I came to that assumption like a majority of the fandom.

Whether KHIII is the last game or not my point still stands that this saga or whatever should end with how the series started. Any further explanation are in other replies and it’s just my opinion. In the end Nomura and crew are going to do what they want (with Disney’s permission as well of course). Point to my comment, not looking forward to Star Wars anything in KHIII but it’s not the end of the world and not bashing SW at all. Just would rather see other material in KHIII than newly acquired franchises.

    • Time Sage

They were going to add the story of Leon and Co to BBS but Nomura stated that with their inculsion there were too many plotlines. So they cut to focus on the imporant ones.

  • 3PointDecoupage

I’m still waiting for my Desperate Housewives level!

    • Solomon_Kano

Dancing with the Stars or no buy.

    • Randy Marsh

Heck no, they better add a George Lopez level in KHIII. His Limit Break could be called WAPAH!

    • Guest

      Jeopardy world!

  • I would prefer if marvel and star wars get save for the next kingdom hearts game that’s not 3. Maybe have Easter eggs like a keyblade lightsaber or goofy with the captain america shield.

    • Solomon_Kano

Goofy getting Cap’s shield would be a brilliant way to reference Marvel without including it wholesale. I like the way you think.

      • Ixbran

And you know, with Donald having access to staffs and hammers as his weapons, with Goofy wielding Caps shield, Donald could have Thor’s mjolnir.

        • Solomon_Kano

Oh goodness, that would be amazing! All that thunder magic lol.

    • brandon

You have a point. While I’m more against the inclusion of Marvel characters in KH3, I wouldn’t mind seeing Easter eggs here and there. Same for SW.

    • vileBrenman

I agree that’s a great idea. it would be a good way to warm everyone up for the next game having those levels in them. maybe even include some of the characters as summons kinda like what they did with Kingdom Hearts 1 and having Mushu and the simba then in Kingdom Hearts 2 they actually got their own levels

    • fayt255

I think that would be great and the best way to add those to KH. I really just want a keyblade lightsaber!

  • Saw this coming a mile away. You knew that was coming once Disney acquired the rights in some form or another.

  • Asherisk

Q). Should a Star Wars world be in KH3? (A). No.

Q). Should the Mirage Arena from BBS return in KH3? (A). Yes.

Q). Should Mirage Arena have some Star Wars Elements? (A). Yes.

Q). Should Mirage Arena host a large variety of Bosses & Allies that would usually never be seen in KH Universe? (A). Yes.

    Q) Should Yoda be a summon obtainable from Mirage Arena (A). Yes.

Q). Should there be an obtainable Light Saber-Keyblade in Mirage Arena (A). Yes.

Q). Is Mirage Arena of any consequence to the overall plot to KH? (A). No.

Q). Will you be satisfied if this is implemented in KH3? (A). I would be, would you?

  • EdzoIV

god i hope this doesnt happen

  • DCBlackbird

I would say save it for the next arc of kingdom hearts otherwise just place a couple of homages

  • TheExile285
  • I’d be fine with this, but I’d want Leia to be the partner character…meh to anything else. That’s all. I just like Leia a lot, okay?!

  • Sergio Briceño

The only collaboration I would approve as both a KH and SW fan is an ewok or wookie stage. The battle against the Trade Federation in Kashyyyk in which Joda took part in Revenge of the Sith is something I would like to see. But don’t go ruining Han or Ben, just don’t…

  • maruhadapurpurine

    please don’t, just don’t.

  • cameron forsyth

i always though of mickey as the equivalent to yoda in terms of awesomeness.

  • Auvers

It’d look awful like that Pirates of the Caribbean and Tron areas. It’s one thing to have the japanese styled characters next to cartoonish characters but having them both next to characters who look modeled realistically after real people is so ugly.

    • Anime10121

I actually thought they blended the PotC world in quite nice :(
Though I didnt care much for the actual world itself and its non-heartless/nobody enemies (the pirates that could only be attacked under the shadows).

      • DCBlackbird

I think we’re just afraid to tread into the uncanny valley

        • Anime10121

Definitely understand that, as I dont want any MORE live action in my KH, I just thought that 2 blended PotC in nice, well at least better than Tron and DEM FACES.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    When’s Marvel?

    • Warboss Aohd

      need’z ta happen.

      • zakizakaria

Deadpool slicing Jar Jar Binks with the Lightsaber Keyblade. Done.

        • Warboss Aohd

          all of my money

        • DCBlackbird

I have a check written for $10,000 where do I send it?

    • Lynx

This…This could be cool. And I’m not really fond of Marvel in KH. But that could be cool.

  • Last Star

Hey Square Enix, remember the classic gem known as Terranigma that Enix created back in the SNES era? Rather than thinking about Star Wars, which may or may not happen because Disney has tight control over what can be brought over into the game, how about adding Terranigma, a game that shares the same theme of light and darkness as Kingdom Hearts?

Ark makes a perfect companion who can fight like a champ, and recreating the city of Loulan before and after the illusion manipulated by Mei will surely leave an everlasting impression on gamers old and new. And who knows, maybe many who never even heard of this game will start digging deeper into the classic gem… and someday you guys can start making a remake!

  • AnimusVox

Kingdom Hearts is basically ‘Star Wars’ for kids anyways. And I do love Star Wars but dislike Disney, and I’m in between with the KH series. I can say I, personally, don’t want Star Wars or Marvel in KH.

    • RisukuAozora

There’d be something… off about either one (Marvel or Star Wars)’s presence in the series. It’s like when Star Wars characters appeared in Soul Caliber 4. It was fun to play as them, but it was… sorta like, they didn’t fit in the setting either.

  • David García Abril

    Oh, God, please, don’t!

I think we all know which Disney we associate with KH as a “Disney X Final Fantasy” cross-over, and “Star Wars” is definitely NOT that.

If they want an equivalent to TWEYY, they already have Pixar (I’d love to see a “Toy Story” world).

    • Kaihedgie

Kingdom Hearts was never strictly Disney x Final Fantasy. When did you ever see the FF logo in each KH game as opposed to Square-Enix?

  • Virus6

Why not just leave Marvel and Star Wars out of this and use the friggin Pixar films? Toy Story would make for a better level than nearly EVERY other Disney film put together.

    • Asherisk

I agree whole heartedly with the Toy Story comment.

    • Lynx

      What is Black Cauldron?

Toy Story level could be a pretty fun idea though. Would you be small or regular size? Would enemies be larger than you? So many questions, so much potential.

  • NightzeroAX

Imagine hearing Duels of the Fate while fighting Darth Maul or Vader. Fighting on the Death Star… I think I may need to clean myself up.

  • Ryan Chiu

Don’t do it. At least bring in some Final Fantasy worlds (VII please) before you bring in something like Star Wars. *shudder*

  • Learii

why star war in KH 3? -_-
    that make the game wrost

    • DCBlackbird

no……… if Tron can be in Kingdom Hearts so can Star Wars

    • Nightmare637

  • O_O Master Clueless

The only way I can see this working in clone wars “im gonna get blazed now”

  • Warboss Aohd

Oh Man, i am all fer dis!

  • CirnoLakes

Whether you’re for or against it, you’ve got to admit one thing.

Star Wars and Kingdom Hearts are incredibly similar thematically.
Both Star Wars and Kingdom Hearts pull upon painfully classic and binary ideas of light and darkness.

In both Kingdom Hearts and Star Wars, you have “darkness” or the “dark side of the force” seen as corrosive. But, in Star Wars, you have a few Jedi who think that the dark side might not be all bad or even necessary in some ways. While in Kingdom Hearts you have Mickey saying that darkness is an important counterbalance of light. Despite in both universes both being something to be avoided by most.

And that is just the beginning of how light and darkness in both Star Wars and Kingdom Hearts is incredibly similar. In fact, thematically, they’re so similar, they almost feel the same.

    • GuyAlpha

Yeah, but there are tons of other things that have “light vs dark” in the plot.

      • Prinnydoom

Nomura made a parallel between terra and anakin in that the two succumb to a corruptive figure head and that they do it to protect someone they love. I agree with cirno there are lots of correlation’s between the two franchises.

        • GuyAlpha

But really that’s it. Worlds in Kingdom Hearts games, as far as the story plot is concerned, never felt all that important to me. It’s just Heartless invade, Sora chases the heartless, ends up in a new world, Helps the protag defeat the heartless and eventually the antagonist of that world. They might throw in a line about Darth Vader and how he fell to darkness, and Sora will respond with something like “That sounds like what happened to Riku.” and that will be the end of it and they carry on fighting. My point is that saying that they’re similar doesn’t really mean much. If it gets in good, but I don’t expect a big deal to be made about it.

  • Masa

Not a Star wars fan but…….i really like those lightsabers.

  • Anko Is Furious

Once Disney owned Star Wars my brother has always been saying “Imagine if they added Star Wars or Lightsabers in Kingdom Hearts” … My reply was always the usual “Oh dear god.. No just stop.” but if they allow it.. T-T Seems its something I’ll have to get use to. I won’t lie I’m not a fan of Star Wars but if it does get into KH I’m pretty sure they’ll make it fit perfectly.

    • yeah!! after KH2 Caribbean pirates…. they’ll make it fit perfectly

      • Anko Is Furious

Like it or not it went well in game.. Since traveling to different worlds is apart of Kingdom Hearts its actually perfect/best to include Disney stuff.. Which to be honest I don’t really like many Disney things but while playing Kingdom Hearts my opinion changes for the moment :P. Unless you expected every world to be repeated over and over lol..?? Adding something new to the twist is great which even though not liking Star Wars I’d see it being perfect in Kingdom Hearts… Sadly >.<..

  • Shady Shariest

If you wan’t to experiment with stuff like that, there’s this neat thing called a “3ds” or even a “WiiU” (Which has a shortage of 3rd party, wink wink) you can use…

  • Oh my god! He’s actually considering it! LOL

Just don’t add the prequels…..maybe the Clone Wars series…maybe.

  • Jrocy247

  • Jeff O’Connor

Going against the grain here hardcore, but as someone who didn’t grow up with Disney yet watched the original Star Wars trilogy over and over again as a kid before finding a new way to spend all my indoors time (namely, JRPGs) this is delightful. Finally there’d be something else for *me* within Kingdom Hearts…

  • Kelohmello

I feel like Kingdom Hearts and Star Wars were something that needed to happen anyways. Control over your powers and whether you use it for Light or Dark are very prevalent themes in both series. So yeah, I’d be okay with this. In fact, I’m all for it.

  • Logan Moll

I really, really hope this doesn’t happen. That just sounds so shit.

  • Skye Johnson

As much as Star Wars is neat, I hope they don’t go through with a Star Wars level. Disney may own it now, but it isn’t “Disney” to me. They didn’t create it; they bought it. It doesn’t belong.

There are already so many cool Disney worlds they could mess with. Treasure Planet? The Americas in Pocahontas. Even Tangled could be cool. Use what you have before you go with new money-bought acquisitions.

I would’ve thought, though, that they’d be a little more along in the development stage to just put in a new world level for the heck of it… but then again, maybe not.

    • Chip

You could make the argument for Nightmare Before Christmas. That’s owned by Touchstone, which is a subsiadary of Disney just as LucasFilms is now.

      • RisukuAozora

Touchstone is just a brand of Disney films, meant for films darker in tone than the Disney core. Heck, it was actually Disney-made, unlike LucasFilms which was bought out by Disney.
        Link for proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touchstone_Pictures

      • Skye Johnson

        Indeed you could.

Though, at least, they became a subsidiary before the game was made, not during the process. (At least, IIRC.) And to be honest, as much as I think Halloween Town is cool, it felt misplaced as well to me, for that reason. It didn’t scream Disney to me at all, because it wasn’t. I feel the same about Pixar if they decide to work with Pixar’s creations, but at least the tone is similar.

I’d just rather actual bonafide Disney and more Final Fantasy, which has… been kind of neglected.

    • Nightmare637

I agree with the Treasure planet world, that would be awsome.

  • Darth Sidious/Palpatine and Master Xehanort, Anakin/Darth Vader and Terra, the Heart and the Force and the Darkness and the Dark Side. There are strong parallels between KH and SW.

Heck, Mark Hamill aka. Luke even got to play Master Eraqus in BBS.

  • SirRichard

    Lightsaber Keyblade, c’mon. Please.

  • Gilgamesh2025

    Star Wars? God forbid!

  • Guest

SE needs to mix KH with Daikatana. Instabuy.

hehehehehe I’ll humor this…… but I guess this time John Romero would be right….

  • brandon

One thing I think we all agree on…

  • supervamp

I don’t see anything bad about it they already had trion and pirates of the Caribbean

  • DanijoEX ♬ the Cosmic Owl

Ah…that is INTERESTING…but I wonder if Square Enix has ever read-up on the Yuuzhan Vong War Saga. (Off subject, that is…)

I don’t think Star Wars would be a fit to it…though. It does have it’s dark moments…

  • Jesse Torres

And that would be completely awesome. Hopefully that will be a possibility.

  • Ixbran

Personally, if they did include star Wars characters, I’d like them to bring in the comic-only White Vader.

Since Kingdom Hearts often times changes character histories or back
stories, they could easily use the non-canon comic story of Vader not
dying, and re-joining the Jedi alongside his son Luke. It would be very
interesting to see them depict Vader as a powerful ally of the light,
rather than just another expected villain fighting for the darkness.

    • s07195

Yeah, but didn’t Anakin already become one with the force in Episode 6? -.- What made him come back to life?

      • Kaihedgie

        That’s a What-If tale

      • Ixbran

its a What-if, non canon comic. Basically take the events of Episode six, but instead of dying in the end, Vader is taken onto the ship and is kept alive. From there he vows to fight for the Jedi once more, so he can be with his son and daughter, and dons that new white armor, abandoning his original black armor.

  • Haseyo

Even as a Star Wars fan…
    And I fear what’ll happen…
I’m okay with this. They did fine with Pirates of the Caribbean and Tron Legacy.

  • Chip

It would depend on which of the three trilogies Sora gets dumped in, and at which point and why Sora’s getting involved. Using Ep 1-3, or potentially episode 7 (Which will be out by the time this is finished) are a big no for me. I could deal with 4-6, but only if Sora doesn’t butt in like he tends to in Disney affairs and do the Hero’s job for them.

    • Ben Sylvia

Could dump him into an extended universe plotline.

Considering it would work pretty well alongside the KH artstyle they might use The Clone Wars animated series.

Regardless of which if any SW plotline they dump Sora and friends into, lightsaber keyblade is a win.

  • Ben Sylvia

I know what keyblade I’ll be using mainly.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      Xenahorts double sticks?

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha ha oh man, Nomura is a machine, he’s unstoppable! Is what I would be saying if I hadn’t already read that article on how Nomura one day barged into the main offices and said he wanted to remake FFXV into a musical after seeing Les Miserables, but was talked down from it QUITE QUICKLY.

In other words, Nomura has crazy ideas and most reasonable people in Square Enix just smile and nod and let him spout his madness. I do not think this is a thing that will happen, all the better in my opinion. I would much rather see them try to work some more Disney and/or Final Fantasy characters into the mixture. Besides, Luke Skywalker and master Eraqus in the same universe? Too much Mark Hamill could rupture the spacetime continuum irreperably!

Unless it’s a Marvel Vs Capcom world, because that is CLEARLY a brilliant idea and should definitely happen. NO, NO WAIT, MARVEL VS CAPCOM VS KINGDOM HEARTS VS SMASH BROS. NO wait. Just make a game called VS and have EVERYONE-*brained*

    • M’iau M’iaut

Hey we haven’t had a musical RPG since Rhapsody/Puppet Princess of Marl! And it even had singing puppets!

      • Umar Fong Wong

I loved Rhapsody, was so fluffy, made me feel happy on the inside and left me with a strange urge for strawberries

      • Göran Isacson

I admit, it would probably turn a LOT of heads if FFXV turned into a musical. Only question is how many people would actually want to buy it, and if they could incorporate the music in an interesting way. Like, would the song numbers just be cutscenes or playable in some way?

        • M’iau M’iaut

Honestly, it isn’t so completely beyond the existing pale. Utada has been doing OPs for SE for a very long time, folks will sit in long lines to get tickets for instrumental concerts, there is a little thing referred to as the opera scene, and in XV you already have 98 Backstreet Town as your leads. :P

          • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, I had to google 98 backstreet Town because I couldn’t tell if it was just a funny clumping of boyband names or the name of an ACTUAL boyband that just never got over to Europe. Still, the Opera Scene was ONE event and perfectly justified in game as a performance, one would think that an actual musical game would have to have a little more interactivity in the actual songs though.

  • Tonton Ramos

I just want Max Goof, Roxanne, Mortimer, Jake Long, Kim Possible and Phineas and Ferb in this game please Nomura!

    • No to the last four kingdom hearts doesn’t need kim possible or phineas and ferb that’s a wack idea

      • Tonton Ramos

At least I want Jake Long and Max Goof that’s all I want…

  • eliel

would be neat hope they put in a Star Wars world/area in. i hope they can at least add later on as like side story dlc thing…

  • delmar

After looking at everyone’s comments I think as a group forgot or didn’t know a huge aspect of Square Enix/ SquareSoft. One of their biggest influences was the Star Wars saga; using references, archetypes, even taking the parts or whole story plots ex.- FFII and FFXII. Having it featured in KH I don’t think would be any weirder/ out of place than including the live action films Tron and Pirates of the Caribbean. Let them pay homage to a story that inspired them.

    • that;s exactly my opinion…

I don’t see how it could match but it’s Nomura-san!! a surprises maker

  • Guest

Harry Potter World? Although… that would kinda be a whole game unto itself… Hogwarts is damn big.

    • Samuel Giam

Harry Potter is a Warner Bros. trademark, not a Disney one.

      • Byron Ray Hurt

they bought the rights to the first two movies several years back.

        • If it was owned by disney the harry potter ride wouldn’t be in universal studios no would it?

  • HassanJamal

Awesome. Take my money. Like as soon as the game is on disc, just take it.

  • Charles Swanson II

I believe the appropriate message from any Star Wars fan should be, and I quote this with utmost sincerity on my behalf:

    “Do not want”

  • Altumn

Stick with cartoons please. Even the Pirates of the Caribbean was a stretch for me.

  • Wouldn’t it will be better to put StarWars/Marvel etc.. ”
on non Numbered game in the series?

  • Vash bane

seems possible since he already has a pair

  • Steven Higgins

I won’t deny that Star Wars could mesh well, but it could also go very, very wrong. By adding SW to KH you are messing with two very volatile fan-bases and even the slightest slip up could set them off. I will play KH III just because I want to see the current story to it’s conclusion, but if they do add SW and I don’t like how the two mesh, I may not stick around for the next chapter. As for Marvel, the universe is so expansive that the only way it could work is by focusing on a single movie like The Avengers which would leave out a TON of characters and the Marvel fans will not like that. With Pixar I keep hearing “Toy Story! Toy Story!” But wouldn’t Brave fit better? I mean, yes, Toy Story was a good movie, but I think a Brave world would fit KH so much better. But there are so many Disney films they could do, both popular and under-appreciated that they could go for years without having to do any of that.

Treasure Planet, The Black Cauldron, Pocahontas, Robin Hood, The Rescuers, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, The Princess and the Frog, Tangled and Frozen, which is set to come out next year, the list goes on.

But no doubt Star Wars will be chosen before any of those because of sheer popularity. It’s rather sad, really. Sorry for the long post.

  • EX+

This game is gonna run better on PS4 anyway. Just one question for discussion: Does anyone think that this is just a one time deal?

Yoichi Wada is the guy who made this decision most likely. He’s just a chairman now, so he won’t be making any big decisions. I think we all know that this game is gonna sell best on PS4 just like FFXV. The sales on the Xbox One version are gonna be kinda pathetic in comparison to the PS4’s. Square Enix also has reported huge losses. They NEED to make this a multiplat to squeeze as much money out of it. The gen hasn’t even started yet so they need to start getting to know the hardware (On PS4 especially) and make it on PC and then port it to the PS4 and Xbox One.

Also we know the PS4 is more powerful then the Xbox One. In 2-3 years, when games use more and more RAM (including GDDR5 meaning just less games for Xbox One), the Xbox One is gonna get some seriously watered down ports or just less games, from Japanese devs especially will ditch it later. So when the games after KH3 and FFXV come out (KH4, FFXV-2, FFXVI) they’ll be exclusive to PS4, because they won’t be able to run on Xbox One and because Square will know that they won’t sell well enough on the Xbox One (Yes I know it might come to PC but it probably won’t with their development costs high enough and if they did it would still sell best on PS4)? Keep in mind that Sony could’ve locked those 2 games as exclusive but they didn’t because they’re focusing on 1st party right now (for now 1st party exclusive will be the main focus). Tetsuya Nomura also loves his exclusivity. I really can’t name any game apart from KH3 and FFXV that are multiplats. Both this and FFXV will probably be out by 2015. What do you guys think?

Since this is a Disney and Square crossover, I would prefer the characters and worlds to be strictly from those companies own creations and/or adaptations. The only way I think they could properly incorporate Marvel and Lucasfilm, is if they save them for wolds that fit the theme of where there from. Like for example some Marvel appearances in the world of The Incredibles, some Star Wars appearances in a Treasure Planet world, and maybe even Indiana Jones in Atlantis.
