Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies And Dragon’s Crown Both Did Great In Japan

By Ishaan . August 2, 2013 . 9:00am

Last week, Capcom released Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies in Japan, and the game sold 250,216 copies in its first week. Sales tracker Media Create reports that this was 65.75% of the game’s shipment.

For perspective, 2007’S Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney sold 250,186 copies in its first week and sold through 57.79% of its shipment. Both games performed more or less the same, which is good, given the gap between the two, since it appears as though there’s been no major loss in the number of fans.

Meanwhile, Dragon’s Crown from Vanillaware sold 104,359 copies on PS3 and another 71,083 copies on PlayStation Vita.

The PS3 version sold through 94.73% of its shipment, which means it’s virtually sold out everywhere. Meanwhile, the Vita version sold through 83.38% of its shipment.

weeee 2 games that deserve good sales

    I’m really glad Dual Destinies is doing so well, the Ace Attorney series deserves to be known. I just wish Capcom could use this as an indicator to release AAI2 or physical copies of DD or something ;___;

It’s okay though, I plan to buy Dual Destinies regardless of what platform it’s on. This game seems too good to pass up.

Glad to see both games doing good. Hopefully they both get good sales in the west too.

Oh wow, Dragon’s Crown did really well. I’m glad to hear that!

Nice to see that AA5 also did pretty well. Nice to see the fanbase for it is pretty consistent.

Ace Attourney selling well. Let the manly tears flow like waterfalls… or let them fall like Gumshoes salary, whichever simile you like the best :)

    • J_Joestar

hopefully it will make them consider a physical release for the west, even if it is only a very limited print.

      • Göran Isacson

One can always hope, yeah. Maybe they can realize that people have missed the series so much that it could actually be succesful over here too… hope springs anew!

Any word on when Ace Attorney might release in North America?

      Fall 2013, that’s all we know… :(

Good God, Vanillaware. Hard work pays off! 94% and 83% is bananas.

I really, really, really hope it continues to sell well. Kamitani and co must be cheering. Hope it does well here, too.

    • ShadowDivz

I know. That’s nothing short of amazing. Although it sucks for the people who actually can’t find it. xD

      • Solomon_Kano

Well, hopefully they all downloaded or are willing to pick it up next week!

    • z_merquise

It could have sold more if they released more physical copies. As posted below, the game actually sold 300k (including the digital downloads).

Still, the current numbers is pretty good. Let’s just hope they release the next batch of copies as soon as possible.

      • Solomon_Kano

Well it’s good that they didn’t get too ambitious with their shipments, it would’ve looked really bad if the game hadn’t don’t well. Now that it has though, I feel bad for the people who can’t get a copy lol.

Yea, let’s see how fast Atlus gets the next shipment out. Hopefully digital keeps booming until then.

  • z_merquise

So happy for Vanillaware! All the struggle (being rejected by many publishers, being ridiculed by ‘journalists’, etc.) and their hard work did paid off.

I hope to see the success of the game outside Japan as well.

  • raymk

Good games selling well is what i like ti see. However i really want to see both do better in the west to show we love the games just as much.

  • Rytan

I hope it they both do as well in the US.

  • tubers

The VITA seems to be establishing itself as a legit PS3 multi-plat in Japan.

Guess the device can become more of a PS3 successor than the PS4 since a lot of JPN devs seem to have lower budgets.

“Build from the PSV then port upwards.” -might become a big thing there.

  • Adrian Duran

I’ guessing this doesn’t include digital downloads

  • wahyudil

limited edition AA5 for the west pleaseeeeee

    • British_Otaku

They haven’t released any limited editions of AA(I) games in the west yet and given this isn’t even getting a retail release so far, that’s a tall order… well hope anyway. There isn’t even a guarantee that they would be stocked wherever you are in the “west”.

If you still want all of the goodies, you can try Ebay ($259.99 plus Free Shipping for the full limited edition) or anywhere else you can find.

  • Fox

    Great.

Can we have an NA release date now?
