Yakuza Restoration Announced By Sega

By Ishaan . August 18, 2013 . 3:14am

Sega have announced the next Yakuza game in Japan. Titled Yakuza Ishin (or Yakuza Restoration), details on the game are scant, other than that it involves a character named Ryoma Sakamoto. Here’s a look at him:

More details will be available in the next issue of Famitsu magazine in Japan.

Another Yakuza Kenzan! But I haven’t played it yet! Can this one get a stateside release along with Yakuza 5?

    • Keksus

Kenzan? I don’t think so. Looks more like Meiji Restoration. This means there will be firearms and we probably see some Katana vs. Gun action.

      • Audie Bakerson

Meiji Restoration was my first thought too.

        • idrawrobots

Haha, my first thought was post occupation.

          • Audie Bakerson

            With the pictured outfit?

          • Fox

Western clothing didn’t become popular until -after- the Meiji Restoration.

I’d point out the irony, but I don’t really have the time.

          • Audie Bakerson

I know, that’s why post occupation wouldn’t fit.

      • ffboi7

I should of specified. What I meant is that its going to be another samurai style Yakuza game.

  • I think we can all agree on one thing:

“The only news we want to hear about this game is that it’s coming Stateside.”

    • British_Otaku

      Worldwide. >_>

      • Fox

        Anywhere with English subtitles.

        • Ric Vazquez

I agree with all of the above

  • HassanJamal

Wonder for what platform(s)? Obviously PS consoles and obviously no xbox version, wii u seems possible but with the sales from Yakuza HD on it, not too sure.

    • IxisNaugus

Well, after the suggested performance of Yakuza 1&2 HD on Wii U last week, I can’t imagine Sega will be quick to get another game in this series out on the console, even if the port had “bomba” written all over it from the start.

Who knows, though? This game must have been in development for a fair amount of time anyway, so perhaps they committed to a Wii U SKU a long time ago, though I’m not holding my breath.

      • Pietro Spina

Maybe they should try to publish a WiiU game the same day as the other consoles.

1&2HD release tempo on the Nintendo console was just STUPID.

  • Nanaki

I really like how they keep coming up with these hairstyles. He looks amazing.

  • asch999

Wow..Another Kiryu Kazuma reincarnation, He has gone through a lot reincarnation cycle isn’t he

I wonder who weill he be next. Nobunaga Oda perhaps

  • Spirit Macardi

By the looks of his attire he seems like he’s from the time period the yakuza originated from.

Actually… That would be awesome! A game about the very creation of the yakuza, following disjointed clans of ninjas as they slowly band together to become the leaders of Japan’s criminal underworld.

    • Fox

The Yakuza evolved in the early Edo period. If this game occurs during the Meiji Restoration (circa 1850), the Yakuza will have been established for several centuries already.

  • ecchilover

Ryoma Sakamoto was a very big historical figure. He is the one that brought down shogunate to bring back imperial rule. He was the no. 1 enemy of shinsengumi. That’s an interesting choice for the main character. :)

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

    Kenzan continuation i guess.^_^

  • ekibyougami

I’m still wondering what happened to the updates regarding the news/confirmation about Yakuza for the Vita ._.
I’m hoping that this will be it.

    • TheExile285

“Elsewhere in the interview, Nagoshi was asked if Yakuza was
coming to the PS Vita. The game producer replied affirmatively, once
again acknowledging how the series has been born and bred on PlayStation

      • ekibyougami

        > Kotaku

I’m not really fond of reading “news” from Kotaku. Anyways, yes I’ve read that from several sites/forums several months ago. How else would I wonder why there aren’t any recent updates regarding the “development” for a Yakuza Vita title?

  • Chris Lane

Can we please get Yakuza 5, 1 and 2 hd, this, and even the first samurai game in the west please? Give us some love Sega, even if its only digital for the side games.

  • ChiffonCake

A Yakuza game taking place during the late Tokugawa shogunate?! Yes please!

Hopefully it’ll actually be released outside of Japan, unlike Kenzan…

  • Masa

and this marks the end of Yakuza in the West.

    Add it to the article

  • evilmajikman

Can we have Yakuza 5 in US/EU now? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

  • Suicunesol

Willing to bet it’s Kiryu Kazuma’s great ancestor.

  • Logan Moll

And still no US release dates for Yakuza HD or Yakuza 5. COME ON, SEGA!

    • eilegz

sega its dropping the ball so bad in america, the lack of phantasy star and yakuza its just depressing

  • Sounds like it’ll be set during the Meiji era. That’s kinda interesting.

Maybe the the next game will be Yakuza 2059.

  • TheExile285

I bet it is either a PS4 (and maybe Wii U) Yakuza or that Vita Yakuza.

  • thaKingRocka

    Meji? I’m in.

  • leingod

Looks awesome, but with Kenzan and 5 not getting localized, what chances does this one have? :(

  • katamari damacy

If SEGA felt no need to localize Kenzan yet felt Dead Souls would do stellar, then we sure as hell won’t get this one. Probably to punish us for not buying Dead Souls
