Sega have shared a new trailer for Yakuza Restoration at the ongoing Tokyo Game Show. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and takes place in Japan’s Meiji Era, during which the country was a feudal society. Watch the trailer below:

Yakuza Restoration will be available in Japan on February 22nd, 2014.

    I need this.

    WOOWWW..!!!

I like this! This is good!! :O I thought this might be some kind of spin-off with a little less fanfare than a mainline title, but I am wrong. Walking around Edo looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. And the trailer was just sooo right in all the right places. At some points, the combat reminded me of Dynasty Warriors with all the katana spinning. Whether that’s good or bad is up to you, but I don’t mind since there seems to be so much more to do than fighting groups of minions.

My first experience with the Yakuza series was about 2 years ago on the PS2 when one of my house renters from Japan left his ceramic white PS2 and a single game, Ryu Ga Gotoku 2, in our closet. The game definitely showed its age, and I wasn’t too enthusiastic about it because I didn’t understand a word. But this trailer just looks really, really cool.

This almost makes me want a PS4. Almost. (Or maybe a PC release.)

Also, guns? Saito Hajime, that’s cheating! I feel sorry for those poor samurai.

    • Fox

      …Such baffling historical-fiction.

Anyway, PC release is not gonna happen. It being a launch title greatly increases its chances of localization; it being a SEGA title greatly reduces its chances of localization.

  • Zuhri69

Sega, u have a responsibility. Do it!

I love how he’s dressed in swordsman garb, but shoots from the hip like a cowboy. Gotta love Japan’s crazy sense of style. :P

  • M’iau M’iaut

AND THE DAMN DOG TRAVELS IN TIME TOO?.

  • popo123

So is it also coming to the Vita? Also I hope that was the ps3 version since it doesn’t look that great as a next gen title.

  • Learii

oh man I wish sega would just bring this game to the west I would buy 3 of them on day 1

    • leingod

That’s BS, but it’s cool you’re enthusiastic about it.

      • Learii

lol ya if they never localized

  • Fox

Well, considering the game doesn’t look like a PS2 title with muddy textures and considering the characters aren’t designed like carnival transsexuals, I don’t think anyone is confusing this with WotS.

    • Calintz YT

I thought it was a PS Vita title.

  • Ryujin

Combat looks a lot more fun than I expected it to be. Surprised to see “status effects” on on some of those weapons, though.
Must be the blacksmith from one of the MH games.

  • leingod

I could do without the guns, but otherwise this game looks awesome. My heart won’t take it if this doesn’t get localized either…

    • AkuLord3

Its during the Period that had it and its not like ur going be “CoD” with them…just fun beat em up combat…HAVE FUN!!!

  • CirnoLakes

Look, Sammy Corporation are planning to use their money they’ll make from Atlus for their Yakuza connections! Yakuza restored, eh? I see your symbolism here!

(I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist that terrible joke.)

  • Prithivi

Looks great! But I couldn’t tell if the footage was PS3 or PS4
Anyway, I hope the game won’t be a Japan exclusive like Yakuza Kenzan…

    • ddh819

      probably neither

    • InfectedAI

Yeah, I’m still hoping Kenzan and this one make it over somehow. The Yakuza 1+2 HD on the Wii U didn’t do to well in Japan last I checked, so probably won’t happen through that route.

  • XiaomuArisu

    Same daughter and dog too?
    Awesome!!!!
And I saw Taiga and Akiyama!!!
    Restoration localization!
    …But first Yakuza 5!

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

so, i guess Kazuma Kiryu finally killed people (and a lot)
