Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn Coming To America And Europe [Update 2]

By Ishaan . February 25, 2014 . 11:02am

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn (titled Shin Gundam Musou in Japan) is coming to America, Namco Bandai announced today. Here’s Namco’s summary of the game from a press release sent out this morning:

Set at an era called “Universal Century”, giant mecha known as Mobile Suits are used to wage war across land, sea, air and space.  Featuring Mobile Suits and their pilots from over 30 years of Gundam anime and manga, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn lets players engage in battles across the Gundam series with the largest roster of Mobile Suits seen in the series so far.  Relive the exciting battles and animation sequences with the largest number of missions ever spanning the entire Gundam series including Mobile Suit Gundam SEED in Official Mode.  Fans can also select Mobile Suit pilots to operate any unlocked Mobile Suit in the game for crossover missions in Ultimate Mode.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn will allow players to control massive Mobile Armor units for the first time in the series.  Mobile Armor units tower over the opposition and deliver absolute destruction to the enemy with the Mobile Armor’s unique weapons.  Visual enhancements allow Mobile Suits and stages to reflect a war-torn world as players battle through hoards of enemies across each scenario.  As players complete missions they will be able to upgrade their Mobile Suit and weapon systems.  Weapon upgrades will be reflected graphically with increased range and power making it easy for players to see their Mobile Suit’s progress.

Players will also be able to select their favorite Mobile Suit and band together for intense split-screen gameplay or online co-op multiplayer action.

Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn will be released for PlayStation 3 this Summer “throughout the Americas” as a download title via PlayStation Network.

Update: Tecmo Koei have announced that they will publish the game in Europe this Summer as well. In Europe, the game will be released both at retail as well digitally.
Update 2: While Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn was a PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita title in Japan, we’re going to miss out on the Vita version. Siliconera confirmed with a Bandai Namco representative that Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn will be PS3 only in the Americas.

  • Digital-Devil

I was happy to see this get released in the U.S. then I died a little inside when I saw that it was download only.

    • Its a lot cheaper for them.

      • MikelAL93

Plus the lack of an English dub can explain why, even though they kinda slimmed down on releasing games on disc without a dub, though JoJo’s disc release is a limited run.

  • Mir Teiwaz

I haven’t had a chance to look into how this game plays compared to DWG3, but it sounds good so far.

  • JonathanisPrimus

Namco Bandai US must hate Vita. This is the second time they’ve dropped the Vita version of a game they’re localizing.

    • chibiwall

they’re coming the most nich game, only namco doesn’t localize vita games

    • SerendipityX

The only outlier is DBZ: Battle of Z that was released download only.

    • Renaldi Saputra

then chances that we won’t see any Vita exclusive games being localized by Bamco whatever the series (Tales, Digimon, and another series) it is are very high

  • And what’s about the PS Vita version ?!!!!

  • Atwa

I am not even mad that its digital only, I get to play it and understand it.

  • Nanaki

I might have to consider robbing a bank at this point.

  • DivinePhoenix69

The lack of a localized vita version makes me sad but this is great news nontheless and will be getting this. I’m assuming the licensed tracks will be removed just like they were in the previous games though.

  • Kaihedgie
  • NeoPancho

I hope it gets released in Europe also… i have to hear yet anything good about the game, but i would probably buy it anyway…

  • megaten666

I didn’t watched any Gundam besides Wing. Does this game has any Story Mode for the individual series, or there is only a universal story for all. I know for a fact, that the PS2 version of Gundam Musou 2 had a mode to relive the individual storylines… I only completed Amuro Ray’s though (Gundam and Gundam Z(?, or was it ZZ?)).
Too many Gundam related titles and I’m slightly interested what’s the fuss about.

    • Kaihedgie

The game’s Official Mode retells the stories of UC (the original series) and CE (SEED). There is a separate crossover mode similar to DWG2 and 3 though and Doctor J is in it.

If you’re wondering about Wing though, Deathscythe H, Heavyarms Custom and Tallgeese II are in the game since they were added in 3

      • megaten666

        Nicccce :D
Deathscythe was always my favorite. I know some Gundams besides Wing’s (thank you DWG2), but never played nor watched their respective stories. And with DWG4 here, I honestly don’t want to go back to DWG2, but still curious about my fav Gundams’ storylines.
        Thanks for the update :)

        • Kaihedgie

Oh, there’s one other thing: one of the DLC units is the Endless Waltz version of Wing Zero, in case you’re wondering

    • $1392518

Official campaigns are limited to 1st Gundam, Char’s Counterattack, Zeta, Seed, and Seed Destiny. Which is a bummer, since the non-seed ones have been done before.

Ultimate mode (crossover story) is still my main draw. I get to play with the Kshatriya, The O, Turn X, and the Susanowo

      • megaten666

I don’t see any logic in this.
Why only those? Those titles were the most succesful? I thought Wing had a pretty big impact too :(

        • $1392518

obile Suit Gundam, Zeta, and Char’s Counter Attack are the 3 things where the first gundam pilot Amuro Ray are featured in. He and the RX-78 are the series poster children.

Outta of all the Alternate Universes, which were popular Seed pop out on top, followed by 00, Wing and G.(though 00 being the best in overall quality)

Regardless, Seed/Destiny are insanely popular, and cater to a crowd that generally wouldnt like a Traditional gundam series. The Campaign inclusion was probably a big boost in sales

  • Reki Honoo

YESSSSSS! I don’t care if it’s download only, were still getting it!

    • 永次

      You can import it.

      • Kaihedgie

        Why would he need to?

        • 永次

          Because retail >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> digital.

          • Kaihedgie

Well retail = digital to me. I don’t care as long as I know what’s going on.

Even further more because we’re still getting a Gundam game anyway.

          • Reki Honoo

Exactly what Kaihedgie said. Besides, I would rather have the game in english, then not have it at all. Only thing i’m worried about is if I need to upgrade my ps3 to the new one that came out before the ps4, since I don’t think i’ll have enough memory on my ps3 with all these games.

          • Serephitus

you can always just replace your ps3’s hdd, i took the hdd out of my ps4 into my ps3’s when i upgraded my ps4 drive

          • Arcana Drill

I dunno when the update in the article took place, but i think that he meant import from europe? where is retail too?

          • Reki Honoo

No, the update for the article was after the guy had commented on my post.

          • hoi1ma

and pray tell how you and Kaihedgie intend to play this 20 years down the road?

          • Kaihedgie

            What are you talking about?

          • hoi1ma

huh my post got deleted, oh well. you cant expected psn to host their server for ps3 forever. forget about backing it up on external hdd, your backup is only good for that specific console you back up, so if that ps3 breaks, good bye everything digital. not to mention some digital file need to validate with server one time after restore. no server no luck. im talking about non ps plus instant game here.
i was confident everything is going to be alright with the announcement of playstation now. when thesixaxis report that i can access my purchase from psn on playstation now, i was stoked. but even if thats true, playstation now probably wont add all the games that ever existed on psn for ps3.

i would be glad to keep digital with me as long as possible. i still have my nes because i archive my games. but then playstation eu twitter officially denied that playstation now allows access with psn purchase. link here: http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2013/10/18/game-all-ps3-digital-content-will-transfer-over-to-ps4/

should anything i said is not true, please inform me. i’d rather be wrong. but its nearing the end of ps3 life and im starting to worry that its looking so bleak.

          • Pancakesarelove

Also I’d rather support a game stateside so we can better our chances to get more gundam/BN games over here.

  • SerendipityX

I’m wondering why Koei let Namco publish this game…

    • Kaihedgie

Who cares, it’s coming over here 8D

      • SerendipityX

Haha, this is true. I’m just a little curious.

    • 永次

Namco let Koei publish this, Namco doesn’t care about NA and EU with Gundam games.

      • SerendipityX

Wait, now I’m confused. Koei is publishing in Europe but Namco is publishing in America, right?

        • 永次

          Oh right.

    • Akimitsu

Namco published all other DW Gundam games in North America, while Koei published the first two in Europe (Namco did the third in Europe).

      • SerendipityX

Thanks for the info. Wait, there are 2 other DW Gundam games that got released here? I want to try out the series.

        • Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 is the best one IMO and it has the most suits.

          • Kaihedgie

            Well this one does.

          • That is out in english. This one is a lot better than DWG3 but its not in english yet

          • Kaihedgie

Maybe, but which of the three people like depends on who you ask

The first one was well received because of the in-game cutscenes and emphasis on interaction between universes

          • SerendipityX

Well can anyone recommend any one to start with? What exactly do you do in the games?

          • Kaihedgie

            Any one is fine.

If you’re looking for the crossover aspect, start with the first. You want more things to do? Play the second one. More units? Play the third. DWG3 has the best gameplay out of the three since it makes the battlefield more lively (though there are no true space battles). The story however kinda misses the mark.

          • SerendipityX

Best gameplay sounds good, story who cares-Robots!!

        • Akimitsu

Gundam Reborn is the fourth title in the series.

  • 永次

Shin Gundam Musou in Japan, not Shin Dynasty Warriors Gundam, “Dynasty Warriors” doesn’t exists in Japan.

    • I was trying to use the name that people were more familiar with, but you’re right… in this case, it should be the original title. Edited!

  • Muffum

Aw, I was hoping for it to be called DWG4. This title obviously makes more sense, but I was hoping for it to share the same disconnect in numbering as DW and WO.

    • $1392518

I was expecting that as well. Just because im so used it. Im hoping that Koei will get their shit together and not call Shin Sangoku Musou 9, Dynasty Warriors 10.

  • Why not on the Vita!?! -.- I was going to order this from the PSN on my Japanese Vita when I got home and now i hear this and not coming for Vita? :(

  • megaten666

Does the japanese version of this included those MIDI-like anime opening tracks during certain events (like in DWG3)?

    • Kaihedgie

Yes, but this time you can insert your own music

      • megaten666

        Custom BGM? Wow!
I wonder if they keep this and the “instrumental opening for events” features in the local version…

        • Kaihedgie

          They don’t

          • megaten666

I can’t comprehend this though. These are just instrumentals. Not even the “true” instrumentals from an album or whatever. As far as I know those are just synthethisized tracks :/

What about the custom BGM feature?

          • Kaihedgie

            What do you mean?

          • megaten666

You said, we can insert our own music in the game, thus the name: custom BGM. I wonder if the local version keep this feature?

  • AlteisenX

One step closer to ever getting a Super Robot Wars game again [*wink wink Atlus? Bandai? PS3 srw/t og game…I know its there waiting..]… too bad its like 9,999,999 more steps to go. x[

    • Renaldi Saputra

      SRW is impossibru

  • Masa

KOEI of Europe are awesome! I hate digital downloads so much, like my games on my shelf. :)

  • Serephitus

damn it i picked up the import two weeks ago, which was rather pricey, wish i saw this sooner, would have saved $40

  • Godmars

Is there hope for the Gundam vs Extreme series?

    • DaiRaiOh

      • megaten666

I don’t see any problem with the possibility of GVSEX localization. I mean after this, who knows?

        • DaiRaiOh

It’s annoying to have to explain this so many times. EX has more issues with it in the sense that it’s a more pricey localization on account of the voice actors, as they can’t do what they usual do with DWG, and re-use old voice clips while adding a few more in for new characters and moments if they go with a dub. And if they stick to the Japanese voices, they have to deal with the licensing for that. Then you have the music which would cost a metric s***ton to licence, enough to ensure that they likely wouldn’t be making a profit, especially for what is essentially a niche game. All and all, one can’t blame them for choosing not to localize the games. To do so would just be a really really stupid business move.

          • Godmars

Thing is, why can’t the VA cast and music from this Gundam game be used for that Gundam game?

Nevermind that it would be only subtitles and translated menus or DL-only, not only would/might enough Western fans buy it and justify the risk, but how much of a nudge would be needed to offer it to competitive fighters? Stream it on twitch? That would be free advertising.

And still, none of that would do anything for my dream of a STG console title…

          • DaiRaiOh

Dialogue is very different, not to mention that many of the characters aren’t in this game. About half, at that

And you change the music, you piss off the fans. Fans have been outraged by significantly less, not to mention it requires from licensing from Koei now for subpar music that doesn’t fit the game at all

  • Mando44646

no PS4 or Vita? why only last gen?

    • Arcana Drill

…….. this game was already released in japan, ps4 launched last week there… how can you ask it for ps4?

    • AkuLord3

Yeah cuz there’s a thousand Ps4 games out now…you from the future or something? cuz companies aren’t leaving to the “new gen” anytime soon…especially when the Ps4 just hit japan

  • Arcana Drill

Never played a gundam game, (only a bit of ZOE if you counts) after a price drop i’ll definitely buy a retail version.

  • Kaihedgie

I just noticed something: this will be America’s first exposure to Crossbone Gundam. Neat

  • doubleO7

    Aw man, PSN-only?

Why is it that Europe is getting all these Dynasty Warriors games at retail, while several of them have been download only in the US?

    • Altin

TK is taking care of the Europe section. Bamco is responsible for the US Release. I also think that it might be that latter also is responsible for PS3 only release. Not that I am bashing on them, but I doubt that TK decided to not release the Vita version as well.

  • D. Collins

So what about Jojo’s bizarre adventure all star battle release date for the Americas and Europa!?

I don’t even have space for all these stupid download-only titles.

  • eilegz

sigh give me gundam extreme vs full boost localization

    • Kaihedgie

      This has much more content

      • eilegz

i dont mind better than nothing :D hopefully we dont get awful dubs like dynasty warrior gundam 2. it was horrible

    • BB

Start praying for a miracle then as any hope of Bandai localizing Gundam Extreme VS Full Boost is pretty much not going to happen.

  • NightzeroAX

I’m going to import. On the bright side at least they’re still bringing the game west.

  • Lilith

    No. Vita. Version.

    • Ethan_Twain

Don’t be upset about it. Look on the bright side – you’re getting a niche anime game localized. It seems choosy to want the niche anime game on the niche low selling hardware too. I mean, that just seems like a bad idea.

      • Lilith

But I thought the Vita was for niche games.

      • Renaldi Saputra

it’s not an anime game, it’s just like another version of dynasty warrior game, that’s why Tecmo KOEI brought overseas

      • Oliver Teigaga

I wouldn’t get this game for my PS3 because there is so much great content out there that I still haven’t finished. If it was priced reasonably on the Vita however (£29.99), I would probably snap it up as it would be a fun little distraction.

        PS Vita = less competition

  • dragoon_slayer12

I like the cell shading styles of 3, but which version is better? This or 3

    • Kaihedgie

This. It’s way better than 3

  • Nice Boat Quatro

I hope this time they pay more attention to the lines. Kamille talking his underwear in combat, Kira saying he is going to kick ass and several other lines were ridiculous in Dynasty Warriors 2.

  • Lynx

So Sub-only or are they dubbing it?

Digital only has me a little worried.

    • fireguardiancoty

Judging by past titles that got the same treatment as this one, it’ll probably be without a dub. Very unfortunate.

      • Kaihedgie

        Ace Attorney 5 was dubbed

        • fireguardiancoty

Crapcom is its own little special category of stupid. They made the wrong decision on that.

But other musou games (One Piece, Warriors Orochi, Dynasty Warriors) that haven’t had a dub got this same treatment. I think part of it is laziness/catering to a minority.

          • Kaihedgie

Everytime you people say “Crapcom”, it just makes me take you far less seriously.

          • fireguardiancoty

            Sorry, autocorrect.

  • OkamiKing

Wait… Is there going to be an English dub?

  • Kornelious

Huh, Europe gets a retail version…Why am I not suprised -_-

    • Mr_SP

I’m surprised. Since when does Europe get good things?

      • Kornelious

Europe got Senran Kagura at retail and limited edition’s IIRC

  • Renaldi Saputra

nah, where’s the fukkin’ Re:Digitize Decode, Bamco?

    • fireguardiancoty

      In Japan.

      • Renaldi Saputra

        I mean localization

  • Mind0105A

  • Sav

    what a shock gtfo.

this is essentially the only gundam series that makes it outside asia.

  • Drew Aser

why is there no release dates

  • Chido55

Truly I am heartbroken for no Vita version :(
    Ah well, such is life.

  • J_Joestar

sad that i can’t continue to support the series, loved the first 3.

  • tinlunlau

Whatever…already playing this on the vita in chinese. Not a big loss for me.

  • Aristides

… No Vita version eh? Well I guess this is a big F-you in the face to anyone hoping to finally play a portable Gundam game in English since forever. I certainly hope TK releases the Vita version in Europe, even if I ever got the PS3 ver it import the European version. NBA can burn in hell for all I care.

  • WhyWai

Bandai has gave up Vita in US.

  • Iman Linggar

    this is why “vitahaznogaemz”….

  • chris snyder

stop your crying about no vita I cant play it at all and also I cant play samurai warriors 4 so I am really pissed the hell off
