Pokémon Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire Are “Full Remakes” Says Nintendo President

By Ishaan . May 7, 2014 . 9:45pm

Earlier today, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire for the Nintendo 3DS. The two games are scheduled for worldwide release this November.

However, there’s been some debate as to just what these games are. The teaser trailer for the two titles contains obscure statements such as “explore a dramatic new world,” which led some people to believe that they might be sequels or spin-offs of Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, rather than remakes.

This is not the case, it would seem. During a financial results briefing, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata explicitly referred to the two games as “full-remakes” of Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire. Iwata noted that the original Ruby/Sapphire have sold 16.22 million copies worldwide. (Over 5.44 million of those copies having been sold in Japan.)

That said, while Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have been confirmed as remakes, there is that matter of the “new world” bit that The Pokémon Company keeps pushing. Even their press release mentions a “spectacular new world,” but just what they mean by this remains to be seen. It could be PR fluff or it could actually mean something.

    Sequels Unconfirmed

  • BlinkingRune

Hoenn was a really diverse region in ways that I feel the other regions weren’t. Not that the other regions were bad—Hoenn just had diving, a town in the treetops, lovely Verdanturf, a hot springs, a volcano, a town entirely on logs, big ocean routes, and an abandoned ship. Taking Hoenn from 2D to 3D after 11 years is pretty close to showing us a “new world” to begin with.

    • Slickyslacker

Precisely why I’ve replayed Emerald more than any other game.

      • bananaking123

GOD, trying to catch rayquaza when I was young is horrendous. The fact that the stupid tower is full of holes is mehhhhh.
That said, I think a “remake”would pertain more towards 2D to 3D like what blinkingrune said. They probably have to build the world from ground up, making it pretty much “new”, but also old in concept.

        • Slickyslacker

Bahaha, I always just spend the Master Ball on the version legendary. Catching Rayquaza, almost definitely in the post game this time, using Ultra Balls is sure to be fun. Climbing the Sky Pillar with pitfalls angered my 8 year old self endlessly.

As these remakes are going to be based on the Gen VI graphics engine, I’m sure they’re going to be beautiful. Just like FF remakes, practically a whole new world…but not in terms of content.

          • bananaking123

exactly, the bloody tower, took me way too long to get up the tower, brought a shit load of timer balls to grab his ass at the end

          • Anko Is Furious (King T.G.P)

I always saved the Master Ball for annoying Pokemon that tend to run away and be such a hassle without having a Trapinch or something in my party *Looks at Latios and Latias* lol..

Other than that it’s usually a trophy / waste of space in my bag.

          • bindlehowzer

Hopefully they will have new features, but even plain remakes are welcome

        • God

          Who hast summoned me?

        • Kemal Koçak

I had 3 Ultra Balls when I saved next to Rayquaza in my first playthrough of Ruby. It took about 296 times but I caught it after all.
Man this brings back so many memories, too bad I don’t have a 3DS. :(

          • bananaking123

time to buy one so they keep pumping out pokemon games ;)

    • Heaven

Yep, I found Hoenn to be the best region for exploring after the elite 4. So many hidden locations only accessible through different bikes, diving up at certain places and discovering the perfect secret base.

Also loved the Pokemon contest and the mechanics behind berry mixing.

    • Kaitsu

I loved the region more than I did the Pokemon. The region and exploration was just fantastic. And there were hidden things that could only happen by doing certain things.

Mirage Island being the most awesome thing. Too bad there wasn’t anything too special about the island.

    • Suicunesol

I think my favorite route was the jungle-like, heavily-forested one leading up to Fortree. The same route with the weather institute. It was all so mind-bogglingly lush and undeveloped and tropical, unlike any other Pokemon game before it. It was like venturing into an unexplored wilderness.

      • bindlehowzer

definitely! Hoenn seems like the least linear of all pokemon regions which is why Ruby and Sapphire were such good games.

    • DarkRoxas

Wheee, someone besides me also likes the diversity in Hoenn’s geography. Another thing that I love about Hoenn is that it is the only region that GF didn’t put those gates that connects the cities to the routes. I also love Hoenn’s size. Also, it’s something I liked abou Kalos too. Both regions routes are really big (specially Hoenn’s).

I’m really excited to see Dive in this game and Route 119. I hope they make this route look like a jungle <3

    • MrRobbyM

I wasn’t a big fan of gen 3 but the towns and story are probably the best out of any Pokemon game.

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

I don’t really see what people saw in Hoenn. I found all of the surfing rather obnoxious to tell the truth.

  • Dianatos

Incredibly Minor Nitpick: I know the originals were referred to as “Ruby and Sapphire,” but why are the remakes “Omega (Ruby) and Alpha (Sapphire)?”

EDIT: I meant the order of the titles should be flipped around so that it would be in alphabetical order : the Alpha and the Omega. Sorry for the misunderstanding, although some of the responses brought up some interesting points.

    • Slickyslacker

I was thinking briefly about this earlier. They’ve gone from “Fire” and “Leaf”, to “Heart” and “Soul”, and now “Omega” and “Alpha” as adjectives for their remakes…kind of odd. It goes to show that Gamefreak is unpredictable, haha.

      • Steven Hunt

Fits in with X and Y, since Alpha and Omega are letters of the Greek alphabet.

        • Dianatos

I get that and I think it’s a cool motif. It’s just the order. We don’t collectively refer to the Gen VI games as “Y and X.”

        • Heaven

More specifically, they’re the first and last letters of the alphabet as well.

Also known as ‘The beginning and the End’.

      • Symbol de Au

They’re pretty predictable just not in smaller things. Regardless someone still predicted this.

    • Serge
  • TheGioG

Even if it’s a full on remake, I’m still pretty dang stoked for whatever new things this game may have in store for me come November. All aboard the hype train on the one-way destination to Memory Street.

    • Revorse

I never noticed the whole Gen 3 horn thing until I got back into Pokemon, last October. Now it’s all I notice when I hear the music.

          • Symbol de Au

It’s a…How do you not get it!?

          • ishyg

            Pirates vs Ninjas? C’mon man.

          • God

No, it’s robot pirates vs zombie ninjas riding dinosaurs fighting on a volcanic explosion at the end of the world.

          • ishyg

I mean the basic premise is still pirates vs ninjas, which is still one of the most debated topics in the internet. I just wonder why he didn’t get it. I guess his body is Reggie’s.

Oh, and thanks for the clarification. I thought that was a zombie pirate.

If we’re talking about the greatest picture on the internet though, I’d like to submit nyan cat vs unicorn but I can’t find it. Doesn’t make my case good, I guess.

          • God

It’s robot pirates vs zombie ninjas riding dinosaurs fighting on a volcanic explosion at the end of the world.

        • hazelnut1112

          LOL B^U

        • AndyLC

That’s a poorly illustrated image of a lame meme.

          • God

That is YOUR opinion, i, and other 40 people, find it awesome.

    • mike dickson

      That pic is so beautiful

  • YoshEE

Hmm I wonder if the new world or new region is related to the Strange Souvenir.

    • bananaking123

first time i have heard of this strange souvenir, did some googling and, woah mind blown

    • celery

Perhaps it’s like HGSS where you visit 2 regions, or perhaps even like a mini-region similar to the Sevii Islands? But it would have to have Gyms, because the man who gives you the souvenir mentions that his “new region” has a Champion.

      • YoshEE

Yea I was also thinking of that too so it might be a possibility. Well I hope they give more info later on.

        • celery

Definitely. Now that we know that these are true remakes (and the Kyogre and Groudon on the boxart are “forms” of -some- sort thanks to Daisuki Club) speculation can start, but there’s still really nothing we can speculate on xD

          • YoshEE

That is for sure lol. Can’t wait til Saturday(Sunday for japan) to show us info.

  • Highasthesky

I hope they don’t change the trainer designs. I really like the trainers of gen 3.

    • VietKnight

Might keep it but have customization

      • bananaking123

Pokemon contests where the trainer has to dress up to match the pokemon. Say whut?????

      • NimbusStev

I would gladly ditch the current trainer designs if it meant customization like in X/Y. But yeah, gen 3 had some of the more interesting looking characters.

        • Steven Higgins

Maybe the Gen 3 characters will be one of the customization options.

          • RablaAndrews

I’d assume they’d be the ‘default’ options, where you pick the hair colour + skintone combo and you start the game like that.

    • Asuna Ilano

Yeah, I wish they don’t remodel the trainers especially May, she’s my favorite heroine of the whole series.

    • Suicunesol

May might end up with overalls instead instead of bike shorts.

  • Slickyslacker

First of all, RIP independent Pokemarts. You are greatly missed.

I’m beyond elated about them, but I’m further intrigued about how Hoenn is going to look with Gen VI graphics. Also, I believe sincerely that the Pokenav will return, even though it was introduced in Emerald. This perhaps inviting a new touch screen feature, like X and Y’s PSS, Pokemon Amie, and Super Training…which may or may not return themselves.

    • celery

Do you mean the Match Call feature? The PokeNav was in RS also, but you couldn’t call trainers, just see their information.

      • Slickyslacker

Yeah, that’s what I meant. Just like how the Pokegear was redone for HG and SS, I’m guessing that the full Pokenav will be overhauled and integrated into the touch screen menu.

        • celery

If it utilized the PSS and Amie in some way, that would be super sweet!

  • DragKudo

Well this is stupid. Should have been a sequel. I wanted to know what Steven did before he went to Johto. Only thing that will make me happy is if we get to wear Team magma or aqua outifts possibly join their cause.

  • Welp there goes my theory of a new story on Hoenn and my hype.

  • konsama

And like damned last year, im left with a HUGE hype for MH4 and Pokemon for most of it. DXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    • hazelnut1112

This is coming out later this year, so hopefully this will keep a lot of people busy until the release of Monster Hunter 4.

  • konsama

Also i just hope they make some epic arrangements of the E4 and champ themes while also keeping at minimum and don’t make them sound like Iris’, Alder’s or Diantha’s. PLEASE MASUDA DON’T DO IT.

  • Lynx

    I’m still skeptical.

Both this and the ‘whole new world’ bits seem like PR fluff.
    Insanely curious though.

  • Ban The Jackass

Gonna wait out instead of Day 1 purchase for me. There’s sure to be a promo a few months after the release.

  • Better mean something

  • TerrenceEncore Jones

I am curious about how Pokemon Bank will interact with these versions,ie, Will the Kalos pokemon be playable in Hoenn?

    • Time Sage

Nintendo stated when they released bank, they wanted it to be compatabble with the series going forward. Basicly they want it as an on going cloud storage for the series where you can store all the mons you want to keep and move between games

    • There’s no reason they shouldn’t be, given that this game is being released after X/Y. The whole point of Pokémon Bank was to support all Pokémon RPGs going forward.

    • beemoh

You could trade all the Gen. III and IV ‘mon into HeartGold/SoulSilver and still use them, so I can’t imagine it won’t be the same here.

  • I’d imagine the “new world” would have something to do with a replacement for the Sevii Islands. Hoenn will be no different bar the 3DS/6th Gen graphics overhaul.

  • FreeLancers

something must be new in this games cause look at the designs on them especially kyogre. I thought he had red around his body now its blue and new markings.

    • Luke

      I’m thinking mega forms

      • FreeLancers

I don’t know, it’s not just there appearance that’s a little different, but there markings or something are to. Kyogre (arms, face) are with different markings and color, and groudon’s stomach has a little markings on it.

    • celery

I expect a -slight- change in the summoning of the Ancient Pokemon, because with the nerfing of their abilities the plot doesn’t work. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were Megas with new abilities that actually summoned permanent weather, and the team leaders controlled them for a bit to try and enact their plans.
Since we now know these are legit remakes, the chance of any alternate forme of theirs having a completely different ability (goodbye, Solar Power and Swift Swim ;-;) is almost gone, since they won’t want to change the plot -too- much.

  • Morningstar

I’m preety certain the “new world” woud be Hoenn but in 3d.

That or conspiracy nuts would use this spiel as proof that Nintendo in with the Illuminati.

  • just tell me what version gets latias. then il be happy.

  • Izzeltrioum

Just the thought ot Deoxys and Archie/Maxie arrangements is intensifying my dopamine streams.

  • Serge

This is my personal opinion, but i think that Gen 3 had the best character designs. I mean, look at these beauties:

I can’t wait to see them in full 3D.

    • Aspenharls

Is there one of Wallace, by this same artist?

    • I couldn’t agree more.

    • Steven Stone is a total badass.

-Badass name because it’s spelled with Ss.
      -Wears Black
-Uses Steel types like a BAWS
      -Has anime-ish white hair
      -Classy ass suit
      -Rocks PURPLE on said suit
-Owns a classy villa in Sinnoh even though he lives in Hoenn, cuz he’s got money to blow like that, and because–
-HE’S STEVEN STONE. Why is your body not ready yet?

      • celery

He goes into caves to look for stones…WHILE WEARING A SUIT!!
        Original Pokemon Husband, hands down!

    • Did somebody say sexiest leader?

  • PlatinumMad

More Megas please. Flygon, Exploud and Ludicolo pls.

    • Go2hell66

      Mega ditto plz

  • decus

I guess there won’t be a Z version which I’m totally fine with as much as I wanted a move tutor in kalos itself.

At first I thought they were going to stick the legendaries in an entirely new region with an entirely new story, but from the sounds of it it’ll be closer to the gen III kanto remakes in that we’ll get something like the islands to explore for the “new world” bits, but the major selling point will be ‘updated mechanics and graphics version of old game’.

I just hope they add in a ‘pick the region you moved in from, did you have a starter from that region already’ system or something as well as add in more pokemon from other regions in general. X and Y giving you your choice of gen 1 starter and the free torchic was nice and hoenn’s starting story makes for a great option there.

    • J_Joestar

a Z version is still possible.
      Emerald came after FireRed/LeafGreen.

  • new_tradition

I still haven’t picked up X or Y, but I’m now honestly more interested in these. I played the remake of Silver/Gold. Playing a remake of Ruby/Sapphire next just makes more sense in my head.

  • Hexodious

Minor spoilers incoming, you’ve been warned.

Is this “new world” perhaps, somehow, someway related to that unknown region stuff that dude keep talking about in that hotel after you receive the souvenir?

    • andibad

i think is not related, or it will like on HGSS/BW2 have place is far far away from current region like shinto ruin. OR/AS is purely RS remake with some extra addition. Guys give you a strange souvenir tell is not from known region so is hinting to new generation.

rumor about pokemon plus and minum, is purely refer to gen 3 remake rather than telling about new region.

  • Ms_Fortune

  • Ben Sylvia

Well it’s gonna be in 3D now, so could be considered spectacular and new.

And the previous remakes have added new areas to the original world, so that too.

  • Yan Zhao

Im guessing they will use Pokemon X and Y’s 3D models for the battles and Pokemons as well, since Im pretty sure there will be trading with X and Y here. Time to see that Groundon, Kyogre and Rayquaza in all their glory~!

  • Earthjolly

Milk that cow Nintendo MOO MOO

    • The Watcher

It’s not like Nintendo is Pushing out Pokemon EVERY year like CoD and Assassin’s Creed. It’s been Almost 12 Years since R&S was released.

      • Symbol de Au

It’s been less than a year since X/Y. It’ll have been 1 year and one month in North America but less than that in Japan.

X/Y also came out a little more than a year after Black 2/White 2. Pokemon is actually one of the most crookedly milked games ever mostly because it doesn’t stop at the games.

        • TalesOfBS

Wish Nintendo would go back into the rby/gsc worldwide milking days. We had even a lot foods featuring pokemon that came with cards or stickers. I really liked that.
Have been years since the last time i saw some merchandise in normal stores…

Your comment is ironic when you look at your own avatar.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

lol you remembered that hoax from the R/S/E days?

      • Symbol de Au

That was true though. If you meet up with the rocket guys in Mossdeep on the 100th launch after becoming champion he’ll tell you. “We finally got a 100% success rate. Since you’re the champion I guess it’s all right to send you into space.” Then you can go to the moon to catch Jirachi.

        • ShawnOtakuSomething

you get Jirachi form the bonus disk from Colosseum. The rumor is busted

          • Symbol de Au

            Calm down.

          • ShawnOtakuSomething

sorry.. I might be an otaku but I’m also a pokemon Mythbuster

          • I tried so hard to go into space…. I JUST now realized it was a hoax.

  • I’m actually looking forward to this as I loved Sapphire

  • Landale

I kind of hope these can trade with X/Y toward the start, rather than the end. It would be nice to tear through Hoenn with the exact same team I did so long ago.

    • Kurizu208

Pokemon bank will be compatible so you will be able to use your old pokemon no matter what.

      • Landale

I know about Pokemon bank. The question is when the game will allow you to access it.

        • Kurizu208

The whole point of pokemon bank was use in future games.

          • Landale

You’re really missing my point aren’t you?

          • Symbol de Au

Your meaning was obvious from the first post.

    • doubleO7

I would assume post-game, like trading has always been. Otherwise, there would be no way to keep you from trading in a bunch of National Dex Pokemon before you even get the National Dex.

  • Just pre-ordered Alpha Sapphire

  • Jadfish

For heavens sake Nintendo, I JUST got over my need to get a 3DS XL because I live in Europe and you don’t release shit here (SMTIV come on) and it’s region lock doesn’t help at all.
THEN you go and announce a remake of my favorite pokemon generation

    • AJ

You sound like you haven’t played Pokemon X/Y. You should.

    • mzpro

      I Feel For You Man

  • dranka

Aaah I’m a bit disappointed then. I really hoped for a new adventure.

    • David García Abril

      That will come eventually.

They’ve been alternating new games and remakes for years now.

      • dranka

Haha yeah, I wouldn’t worry about that ^_^) It’s just that I wasn’t the biggest fan of the gen 3. Maybe it will charm me this time!

  • WhyWai

is it going to use X&Y’s 3D engine?

    • doubleO7

      Pretty much a given, yeah.

  • mzpro

if Only 3DS is Region Free…

    • Reki Honoo

Why would you care if it was region free or not for this? It’s gonna be released worldwide.

      • mzpro

Lets See… You Live in Place Where Only US Games is Here While You Only Have an EU 3DS.

        • doubleO7

If you want a quick solution, pick up a cheap 2DS. They’ve dropped below $100 before.

          • mzpro

dude i already have a 3ds why would i buy one more for just one game and thank god that i have a vita with ps+ (free games on region free system) and i know it barely have any great games on that system

          • doubleO7

I’m just saying, if you live in a region that only sells US games, its a pretty good idea to have a system that actually, y’know, plays them. Otherwise, start importing.

          • mzpro

but in return if the system is Region Free i will buy all kind of games in it and dosen’t matters if they English or Japanese (i can learn).

I’m not gonna lie 3DS is an amazing system but the Region-lock is the only thing that piss me off and i wish they update it so it will be open free.

so Nintendo please do something about it(I’m still believing in you)

  • Renaldi Saputra
  • Senka

I took it to simply mean seeing the game’s world in 3D, or even just modern graphics, will feel like seeing a new world. In other words: Yes, it’s just Marketing/PR Fluff.

  • ZekeFreek

Thanks Nintendo. I know what the word “remake” means.

    • Gemlit

      Same story with added content?

  • If these are remakes, does that mean the game’s writers could make Team Aqua and Magma much more dangerous villains?

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

still better villains then team Flare lol

      • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

Team Flare were plenty evil, considering they were basically committing a genocide of both man and Pokemon.

        • Evil-Antho

I think it’s more about the fact that team flare are kinda goofy at most times. yes they ARE plenty evil of course. It might also be due to the fact that we can see Lysandre being the bad guy all the way from gen1. and they are kind of a team made of douches ^^; (don’t get me wrong I also like team flare)

          • Steven Higgins

I would say that Lysandre, the Scientists and Execs are evil (Lysadre a little less so since he actually showed remorse) but the Flare Grunts were the most inept, goofy, comedic villains in the game series. they’re almost worse than Jesse and James from the anime and I could never take them as serious threat, especially since they were so proud of spending a ridiculous amount of money on those gaudy suits. It’s almost like the suits were a screening test to ensure that no one with any common sense got in to Team Flare.

          • Evil-Antho

Yeah that’s exactly what I mean! The grunts were just too goofy compared to most of the other evil teams (granted I have not played gen 4 so I dunno a thing about team galactic)
I’ve only played half of sapphire (my cartridge was used and I want to get a bazillion kyogres and I’m on the mad shiny hunt for a god forsaken shiny rayquaza) but from what I’ve played and everything I’ve seen on the internetz, team aqua and magma were awesome! I mean, altering the shape of the world itself is pretty intense.
(ok so is mass genocide from team flare but that’s a detail)
Like I said, it’s not that I hate team Flare, (I like them) but they just aren’t the best team.

          • celery

Team Galactic was evil. They strategically dressed their Grunts up in absurd outfits so no one would take them seriously, and then they came within a hair’s width of ripping apart space and time.
They also did some other really nasty things that I won’t mention in case you ever want to go back and play gen 4.

          • Evil-Antho

I might go and play platinum eventually, still thanks for the info ^^ while we’re all here I have a question to ask. I’m currently soft resetting non-stop in front of Rayquaza in pokemon sapphire in the hopes of getting a shiny of it. counting my previous attemps, it’s been a non-stop 9 days of start resetting.
Should I just catch Rayquaza at this point, transfer all my stuff and then replay the game and start rayquaza again later?

back to evil team stuff! and Team Rocket was more of the mafia/criminal organization. They didn’t do crazy things like destroying time and space or committing genocide but they were still cool though =o though that might also be the nostalgia speaking for me.

          • celery

SR’ing for a legend is so time-consuming but so rewarding! Since the remakes are now confirmed I would probably just SR for it now and whenever you get it, you can transfer and then reset c: Best of success to you!

I do feel like a lot of Rocket’s “coolness” comes from nostalgia, however I think The Origins anime did a lot of justice to Giovanni, making him more of a “I was once a good kid like you, too” kind of character, as opposed to the “I’m evil, I want money, I admit it, that’s all” kind of character he is in the games. No one starts off evil, so it was great to see that side of him.

          • Evil-Antho

I’m sure it must be amazing! this is my second attempt at shiny rayquaza x.x the first time was a non-stop week after all x.x hopefully I will catch him this time! also usually when SR’ing for a legendary, I just run around in circles in another game hoping I might get lucky that way too and catch a shiny. It worked too back then! that’s how I got my shiny magnemite in White 2! Thank you very much though! I’ll be sure to take pictures once I finally get my paws on Shiny Rayquaza! X3

I agree. Yes Origins made Giovanni into a much better character than everyone usually saw him as!!
Origins was all kinds of awesome! The only thing I wished more is that it lasted longer. I wish we could have seen more gym leader fights ^^; also, Team Plasma is…well a strange take for me. Mostly because of having Black 2 and White 2 since you see them before and after. As well as the whole thing with N and Ghetsis

          • Evil-Antho

I’m just trying not to go insane for now x.x RAYQUAZA Y U NO BLACK?! *cough* sorry.
day 3 of my 2nd attempt at catching the sexy bastard still hasn’t paid off. I am a man of much patience and I won’t give up though! Thank you very much and I will keep you updated on my progress ^^

I agree with you on this. It’s also because Team Rocket is still relevant even today (Jesse and James are still there after all) Though yes Pokemon the Origins was fantastic in everyway. It gave character development on Giovanni and made him much better than he used to be. The only single gripe I have against the Origins is that I wished it would have lasted longer and not have skipped literally every gym and elite 4 @[email protected]

    • celery

Potentially! They actually -were- dangerous in that they actually managed to see their goal to fruition, but they could alter their goals slightly to be even more threatening. If anything, it would work very well since the original plot can’t truly be reenacted with gen 6 mechanics.

      • Yeah, perhaps their aimed expansion over their supported geographical element could be what their grunts have been espousing, (I believe mostly in the original.) but, imagine, what if either Archie and Maxie have something else sinister in mind behind their respective team’s agenda that even they won’t divulge to their minions? A mix of Ghetsis and Lysandre’s mannerisms.

        • celery

That would be so cool! I’d either want them to become more menacing, or if they remain “good hearts gone wrong” I’d like to see their backstories divulged a little bit. Give a little more depth either way~

  • Gemlit

What about the Emerald Sigma, or should it be called that?

    • Sigma Emerald, Beta Emerald?

    • J_Joestar

      Gamma Emerald.

    • celery

Remakes are technically the third version remade, but with the version differences of the first two games applied. That is why we never received “AquaBlue,” “ThunderYellow,” and “MindCrystal.”

    • Blick Winkel

      Psi Emerald

  • If it is Full Remake as Nintendo Claim then i hope this time they include more places other than Hoenn itself

  • ishyg

I was discussing this with another user back at IGN before, about the possibility of the game being a sequel since retconning Mega can be quite difficult (where we arrived at just hiding the mechanic till the end, or make it a sequel). Now that Nintendo said it’s a full remake it’s all good, but I’m still interested as to how they will explain the bit about Blaziken and [email protected] getting mega stones.

    • doubleO7

I imagine they won’t explain anything. And they won’t really need to. This being a remake of a game without Mega’s, I wouldn’t be surprised if we can’t use Mega Evolutions until the post-game.

      • ishyg

True. I was thinking about it like this, but if it turned out this way, wouldn’t it be disappointing? I mean, without explaining anything they won’t be able to add more megas to the roster.

Or retcon using post-game content. They can easily explain it after the main story is finished, I suppose.

      • Serge

Or maybe, just maybe, the Red & Blue Orbs are actually Mega Stones for Kyogren and Groundon.

  • Hexodious

This may come over as a stupid question.

But the current Groundon and Kyogre on the art box, are those “Mega Evolutions” or just new color schemes?

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

The stones you get to awake them give them a power boost or a new forum *not Mega*

    • Lavitz

      They’re just glowing

      • Landale

They’re not just glowing, there are a few minor design changes present. Kyogre’s got some new markings on it’s head, as well as lines that weren’t there before attached to the large spots on it, and in addition to the “glow” on it’s fins there are white portions that were not there before. Groudon seems to be down to a single blade, for lack of a better word, on the top of it’s head rather than 4 of them, it’s spikes are noticeably darker, and has an omega symbol on it’s hands, rather than a complete circle with lines running off it to it’s claws.

    • Kurizu208

we don’t know yet. most people don’t want them to be megas since they are not different enough. Though it would be cool if the orbs from the original games ended up being mega stones.

    • celery

Pokemon Daisuki Club has confirmed that they are new “forms” of some sort. Whether they are formes or Megas is still unknown, but my bet is on Megas. Megas are newly-introduced, and lots of gen 3 Pokemon got Megas. I don’t see why they would just abandon that now.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Maybe they will finely add the Orange Islands to the post game since Hoenn is in the tropics. If its a remake….what is up with that strange souvenir you get from that NPC in X&Y I was hoping that played a part in the remake.. IDK I’m still overjoyed to hear my favorite gen is getting remade so soon.

    • Anesia Hunter

the strange souvenir is from an npc that’s from a region we have no clue about. he even said he’s not from kanto, johto, hoenn, sinnoh or unova. also aren’t the orange islands too far way from hoenn anyways?

anyways, i wouldn’t be surprised if they added a lot of new areas to the post game.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

True, Since Gamefreak said * EXPLORE A NEW WORLD!* I was putting them together since the souvenir looks like something from the tropics. eh I was wrong lol. Yeah the Orange Islands are far away but you can take a plane or ship or something to get there. I guessing the new area is going to be a revamped Battle Frontier

      • Steven Higgins

I’ll say, the Orange Islands don’t even seem to exist ANYWHERE in the game world. Which doesn’t really matter to me because that whole season was just filler anyway, Like the Garlic Jr. arc in DBZ or the Makaiju arc in Sailor Moon.

  • DCBlackbird

    I’m…. Not as excited now

  • MrRobbyM

I’m sure by “new world” they mean that the world is now full 3D so it’s “new”.

  • ギャビン

I love all the beaches and water in Hoenn. I’m just happy and can bring the very few X pokemon I care about into Ruby and stay there. X & Y was disappointing to me.

  • TheHolypopeofgaming

UGH Nintendo would rather remake the same 4 games 50 times than make 50 new games with new ideas.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I never knew that Pokemon Sapphire and Ruby had been remaked for 50 times here.T_T

      • harmonyworld

Well no, it hasn’t, but I see where he’s coming from.
        New IP’s man!
        and I don’t mean indie games~~

        • Serge

Tomodachi collection, Wonderful 101, Sub wars Steel Diver… Is not like they don’t have new IPs. Is just that people focus their attention in the old ones.

      • TheHolypopeofgaming

        They probably have

    • 하세요

      > Fans demand a remake
      > Nintendo/Gamefreak gives remake
      > Nintendo gets bashed for creating remakes

They just can’t win, can they.

      • TheHolypopeofgaming

I’m not a Nintendo fan. I demanded something new to bring me back. Nintendo has done nothing to bring me back.

        • Towel

They’re bringing you back to Hoenn.

        • Ban The Jackass

Can the secret bases at least win you over? I love me secret bases :)

      • Jero

        >greentext in disqus
great job mate, also i’m pretty sure there were people who said “but where’s muh hoenn” when pokemon x/y was released, so this is just the contrary opinion, you’re right, they just can’t win :/

  • lozffvii

Anybody else notice ‘The Pokemon Company’s name on the box art?
Aren’t they a subdivision of Gamefreak, while Gamefreak itself typically makes the games in the series, or am I mistaken with outdated info?

I mainly only remember The Pokemon Company because it was them who made Pokemon Colosseum/XD Gale of Darkness rather than Gf.

Anybody else think this could be related?

    • doubleO7

You’re thinking too much into it. TPC is is just a Nintendo affiliate that handles licensing and marketing for the franchise. They may work with GameFreak, but aren’t part of GameFreak. They’re not a developer. They’ve also had their names on the box of every Pokemon game since Gen3, so its not like this is something new.

Genius Sonority was the developer of the GameCube PKMN games.

  • Invisbin

Give us mega evolutions of the starters, new evolutions for the pokemon that don’t evolve, and 2v2 online battles and I’ll love you forever

  • Freud_Hater

Well, since I’m one of the few (Like 6,7) human on Earth that never played those games, I think I’m gonna pick this up… M-May is in this one, right? 8D

    • Morningstar

Yup and there are currently three distance characterizations for her (though only two of them are from official media): A Coordinator (Anime), Tarzan’s distant cousin (Pokemon Special/Adventures) and an ax crazy Anarchist (Twitch)

    • J_Joestar

  • ネオフォトン ~ Neo

Japanese site’s announcement doesn’t even use anything like “new adventure/world”. I think it’s safe to say it’s just PR fluff.

  • Tarkovsky

I find it funny how people think that this is a desperate attempt by Nintendo when they have been doing this since Fire Red and Leaf Green which was like a decade ago.

    • Vash bane

not really from what I hear “fans” of this gen had been asking for this for years. so for them its a blessing been heard (I’m sort of mimicking someone else there) XD

  • boisechris

Has anyone thought that an “Epic new adventure” and a “Dramatic new world” that they mean that it’s the new 3D graphics that they are referencing?

  • Sentsuizan_93

What I’m curious about is if the remake will still have the Box glitch to make perfect copies of Pokemon… >_>

    • Hikari Langley

      Unlikely since it’s new code.

      • Sentsuizan_93

Shame. Though I kind of expected that to be the case.
        No more cloning with Pokemon holding Master Balls… ;_;

        • Symbol de Au

You can clone in X and Y via trading. As I’ve said before GameFreak are horrible developers. If the glitch was removed from one area of Pokemon you can be sure to find it in another one.

He also mentions another method. If you want to hack or glitch Pokemon just google.

  • Kornelious

I don’t play Pokemon personally but I asked a few of my friends “IRL” about it and they were a bit skeptic…..I guess it just needs some time to become a thing like X and Y was…….

  • The_Superior_Spider-Mon

Bring on more new/unreleased mega pokemon.

  • J_Joestar

Can’t wait for contests to return, hope it has online so i can show off the manlyness of my Blaziken!

    • Ugh. I hated contests. Makes me think of American Idol or some stupid reality show that should just die off before the brainwashed masses flock all over it and turn it into an uncontrollable monster.

  • SlickRoach

Sweet! So now that R/S remakes have been announced the whole “Hoenn confirmed” meme seems a bit redundant. But I’m still boarding the hype train.

    • NintendoPSXTheSecond

      Sinnoh Confirmed.

      • SlickRoach

So it begins, a brand new generation of memes.

  • Vash bane

ah that’s a shame so basically the same adventure but in 3D….I’m still curious of those two phrases they mentioned since those are the only reasons I’m interested. but I admit I like that box art lol that would be badass if they looked like that in…..wait I just remembered team aqua/magma was in this one right?

    -squints eyes-

this also the game where latios and latias appeared too correct?

  • Bobby Jennings

New worlds…It’s just going to be a new looking Hoenn.

  • Canos

Maybe the “New World” will be sort of like what they did for the HeartGold and SoulSilver remakes, as in they will make it so that you can go to another previously made region after you beat the Hoenn Elite 4. Just a thought.

    • RablaAndrews

That wasn’t new to HG/SS, Kanto was always available in the GS games.

      • Canos

Right, but that doesn’t mean they won’t add an extra region to the Hoenn re-makes. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. Just a theory, no one really knows anything yet.

  • TheBlackRabbit

damn a remake? That kinda kills it for me…oh well, there will always be another pokemon game incoming…unless the world ends or something….

  • Steven Higgins

So we get AS/OR this year, Z next year (hopefully with FULL 3D) then the next hand-held come out and we get Gen VII, then the third Gen VII game and then D/P remakes since that seems to be the pattern.

Also, I was totally expecting them to be called Something like Blazing Ruby/Seafoam Saphhire or just Magma Ruby/Aqua Saphire so the titles, if not the confirmation, came as a bit of a surprise for me.

    • NintendoPSXTheSecond

That’s not necessarily true as D/P and B/W two different gens were on the same platform (DS).

    • Vash bane

lol I remember those names from a couple years back (they used to be trolling vids for ppl who wanted the remake back then)

  • Gaminglord3

YES! It has one of the best battle music in Pokémon too!

  • Xerain

You finally gave me the ability to customize my trainer and change my clothes. You will have to pry it out of my cold dead fingers.

    • s07195

Who says you can’t? X and Y had default outfits.

      • Xerain

No one. I’d just like confirmation sooner rather than later so I can know whether to get excited or not.

  • ChaosDT08

But will they be based off of BW’s game engine or XY’s?

    • andibad

based of XY. 2D/3D on video is refer to nintendo 2DS and nintendo 3DS, on another meaning 2D mean 3D without stereoscopic and 3D mean to 3D with stereoscopic feature.

GF will not waste their money and time to recreating 2d sprite, and abandoned their awesome 3D models From XY.

  • Namuro

Love the new designs on the two legendaries!

  • The Pokémon Company have reached out about the cover art for Groudon and Kyogre. Turns out TPC are “showcasing never before seen Pokémon”, similar to Kyurem’s alternate forms.

    • celery

That’s good news to me, at least. I’m hoping they’re Megas. It would help enhance the plot and it gives Magma and Aqua the possibility of becoming even more threatening than they were in the original games.

      • Yeah, I said that because a lot of people were disliking the art and hoping they’re not Mega’s. Now I know there are people who like the new looks, I’ve removed the “bad news” part.

        • Landale

The forms presented here are very minor changes, far less than you’d expect from a Mega. It could be something minor like Xerneas’ alternate form, in that you only really have one form while the other is more or less a cosmetic change for some situations. In their case, these alternate forms could simply be for while they’re still wild and going beyond what they can typically do when captured.

          • I know what you mean and I was thinking the same thing. I mean, aside from Mewtwo, how many legendaries or box art Pokémon (not including 1st Gen, obviously) have Mega evolutions? I’d say it’s more of a “released” form with those glowing lines (should also be noted that the symbols for Omega and Alpha can be seen on their respective bodies with the alteration). I’ve even seen a scan, not sure if it’s fake or not, that suggests that Groudon and Kyogre can fuse with Rayquaza to form a new Pokémon, similar to Kyurem’s forms. (The scan also shows a possibility for Sceptile’s and Swampert’s Mega Evolutions.)

          • Landale

Latias and Latios technically have Mega forms. They’re just not accessible.
It would be kind of odd for Rayquaza to fuse with them, as it’s never even been hinted that there’s that kind of connection. Just that it’s more or less a mediator between the two.

          • Rayquaza is Groudon and Kyogre’s third much like Kyurem is Reshiram and Zekrom’s third. So it’s possible. I don’t know the connection Kyurem has to Reshiram and Zekrom (who are Pokémon’s Yin and Yang), but Rayquaza is the “Sky” to Groudon’s “Fire/Earth” and Kyogre’s “Water”.

          • Landale

Kyurem, Reshiram, and Zekrom were originally one Pokemon. Kyurem being the original and the others fragments of it, Black/White Kyurem is just it taking back a piece of itself. There’s no such stated connection between Rayquaza, Groudon, and Kyogre

          • Oh, yeah, well…I’ve barely played my copy of Black 2, so I wouldn’t know…guess we’ll find out as they release information, then.

          • Lynx

Ampharos, Venasaur and a few others don’t have a drastic change in Mega.

Still say they’re going to be fully awakened formes though.

          • Landale

Those do have noticeable physical changes though. These on the other hand seem to be mostly coloring and line changes, possibly a very minor physical adjustment on Groudon’s head though that’s hard to tell with the angle. Their changes match up far more to Xerneas’ form changing, minor coloration changes, than even the most minor of Mega changes.

    • Vash bane

I was just coming back to mention that beating to the point lol yeah in groundons case it kinda reminds me of possessed Pikachu (no longer remember but I think it was a episode where he had those glowing marks and oh yeah bootleg groundon from that jirachi movie I think)

  • One reason to liek Mudkip again.

  • Michael Chen

Scrolled down through the comments and no one mentions a thing about “Diving in 3D”.

  • Masa

    Pokemon, GOTTA MILK EM ALL!

  • TheHelper

Wow can’t wait for this game! I don’t have a 3ds but i’m deffinetly getting one now. I’m currently saving for one here. http://tinyurl.com/okvfwfp It’s a site where you earn cash to click on ads or play games and many other things. Which you can then use that cash to order anything from amazon directly. All you have to do is sign up and start earning! I made $35.67 in one day. That’s not a lot but I did that in my spare time Just $135.33 more to go.

  • TheHelper

I wonder if rayquza (i’m sure I spelled that wrong) is in this.

  • Dieter de Jong

Hey everyone! I just found this amazing website where they have the recently leaked Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Roms + a working 3DS emulator. Check it out for yourself: http://pokemon-omega-ruby-alpha-sapphire.blogspot.com/

  • Nobody

Hopefully, they will actually allow us basically functionally, such as the ability to REMOVE FRIENDS FROM OUR FRIEND’S LIST.

Having the game run at a consistent framerate WITH AND WITHOUT 3D would also be nice. I can’t even enjoy 3D in Pokemon X because it looks like playing a slideshow if I have it event eh slightest bit on. I can barely enjoy 2D because the slowdown exists there, too.
