Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition On PC Moves To Steamworks This Week

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition on PC is transitioning from Games For Windows Live to Steamworks this week. The transition will happen starting May 30th.

If you purchased Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition for Steam, starting May 30th, you’ll be given the option to download a new Steamworks version of the game for free. Once you boot the game up, it will allow you to copy your GFWL save data over.

Additionally, Capcom note that the GFWL version of the game will continue to function normally “for the foreseeable future” (presumably until GFWL shuts down).

There are also instructions for how to update your game if you bought a retail version of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition for Games For Windows Live. You can view those over at Capcom Unity, along with other details (like how you won’t be able to access your DLC).

Other news sites are reporting that this leaves people unable to use the DLC they purchased.

If you bought the DLC via Steam you should be fine.

And if you didn’t, well who cares about you.

It is a good reminder that DRM handcuffed content can be taken away from you at any time in the future though.

          Pretty much.

Of course there’s probably a perfect version available for downloading via torrent; because pirates can produce a better quality product than the companies themselves, if the recent Watch_Dogs uplay debacle is any indication…

Can this please happen to Dark Souls too? I don’t mind GFWL that much but it’s still an inconvenience.

  • Afternoon Intergalactic

So if I purchased this digitally for GFWL I won’t be able to migrate with everyone else?

    • Nicholas Perry

There should be a CD-Key somewhere. You can use that to migrate to steam.
      Won’t get DLC though.

Which is amazing, those who actually supported GFWL get punished.

check your gfwl client, like the actual downloadable client, login to that, find your game and check the cd section.

  • John Hayabusa

I bought the GFWL version years ago and even though I will not have the DLCs, this is a bit of good news.

  • monkey king

They kept quiet about this way too long, well at least I don’t have to worry about my retail copy anymore.
