One Piece Unlimited World: Red Is Still Selling On The 3DS In Japan

By Ishaan . June 24, 2014 . 5:00pm

An updated version of One Piece Unlimited World: Red was released in Japan on June 12th for PlayStation 3, PS Vita and Wii U. Here’s a breakdown of how it sold:

One Piece Unlimited World: Red (PS3) – 18,026

One Piece Unlimited World: Red (PSV) – 10,348

One Piece Unlimited World: Red (Wii U) – 4,209

The PlayStation 3 version of the game sold best, coming in at just over 18,000 copies and Japanese sales tracker Media Create reports that it sold through 62.31% of its shipment.

Unlimited World: Red was originally released on the Nintendo 3DS last year and sold 84,000 copies in its opening week. The PS3, Vita and Wii U versions combined sold about half that amount. In fact, the release of the new version even boosted sales of the original Nintendo 3DS version, according to Media Create. This may be partly because the 3DS version received the new content as free DLC the same week.

Total sales of the 3DS version are currently at 248,000 copies (thrice its opening week sales) and growing.

hmm i have been sleeping on this… i think it’s time to awaken.

I wish they would make a One Piece Fighting game, I think its long overdue.

    • Laith Rem

There was one for the PS2 which reached Water 7/Enies Lobies and there’s the Gigant Battle series for the DS

      • hng qtr

        And the Gamecube games.

    • MrJechgo

      A-greed ^_^

Let CyberConnect2 takes charge of that and make a fighting game with 36 characters:

Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook, Buggy, Kuro, Krieg, Mihawk, Arlong, Wapol, Vivi, Crocodile, Enel, Foxy, Aokiji, Rob Lucci, Gekko, Eustass, Kuma, Boa, Magellan, Ivankov, Ace, Whitebeard, Blackbeard, Akainu, Vander, Hody, Law, Caesar, Flamingo.

I can’t help but notice that your list has a distinct lack of Jimbei and Bon-Chan, the majesty of Fishman Karate and Okama Kenpo is underestimated again…oh the humanity!

        • MrJechgo

Underestimated? Not at all, I’ve seen enough to claim that they are good characters. I just went for 36 characters, similar to how JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle had… before DLC.

(Ok, screw it, here are your unlockable characters :P )
Mr. 2, Jimbei, Perona, Sabo, Smoker, Kizaru, Garp, Kaku and Shanks could be added to my list, making it to 45.

But come on, sooooooo many characters can be added for a One Piece fighting game… just the latest arc introduces like dozens of fighters which are potentially adequate for the roster.

Gigant Battle is pretty fun, you can import the first one from the UK

Grand Battle on the PS1 released over a decade ago.
There was a game literally called “Fighting for One Piece” and Gigant Battle 2 (2011) was god like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=VWZPflKqmfQ

Yea, I have it. I just wish they would make one more in the line of Naruto and Dragonball Z games on consoles. One Piece has some of the best fight scenes and powers, I think it would translate perfectly with a fighting game.

        • British_Otaku

Which DBZ games? Most of the recent console ones are awful.

If you are asking for a shallow but pretty CC2 style fighter, I’ll avoid those like the plague even if I know hundreds of thousands will buy them. >_>

The power systems translate well into adventure games where more elements can be reflected or bigger brawlers like Gigant Battle 2.

Hrm… I do have to wonder if 4000+ sales is enough to pay the salary of the guy porting it to WiiU (plus his boss, and certification and testing costs and such). Quick mental math seems to indicate it’s probably barely enough, but still I guess the main reason the ported it was simply to boost 3DS sales from the extra marketing associated with it.

I hear the game is fairly short. Can anyone verify this???

    • British_Otaku

Already finished the game including the June 12th update, it will easily last you dozens of hours if you want to complete the story, repair the town and do all of the sidequests (not counting June 12th update content which is fairly short but comes with hidden boss quests with a lot of conditions to unlock them).

      • Rohan Kishibe

Thank You! Sounds like I’ll be getting my bang for my buck for $30 on the 3DS.

You combine the most popular anime and monster hunter into a game and sell it in japan, you bet your sensei that game will be flying off shelves.
