Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright Sold More Than Conquest In Japan

Last week, Nintendo released Fire Emblem Fates in Japan. For the first time in the series’ history, the game is available in two versions—Birthright and Conquest—and between both versions, Fates sold 260,675 copies at launch.

Japanese sales tracker Media Create reports that Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright sold approximately 154,000 copies, while Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest sold 107,000 copies. Given that the Birthright version of the game is the more straightforward of the two and is meant to attract casual players, it isn’t surprising to see that it sold more.

Additionally, a limited edition version of Fire Emblem Fates containing both versions sold another 42,991 copies, bringing total first-week sales to 303,666 units at launch.

The important thing to note here is that the aforementioned figures account for retail sales. However, in Japan, buying one version of Fire Emblem Fates allows the user to download the other version at a steep discount, and these download sales are not reflected above. Additionally, buying Fire Emblem Fates as a download title has other benefits as well, so it wouldn’t be surprising if a higher number of people than usual opted to go the digital route this time around.

Hopefully, at some point in the future, Nintendo will shed light on total sales of Fire Emblem Fates, including both retail and download copies sold.
