Last week, Japan was on vacation with Golden Week but it saw the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for Nintendo Switch. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of April 30 through May 6, 2018.

There was only one new title to release last week. He’s bigger, faster, and stronger too. he’s the first member of the DK crew. DK! Donkey Kong! Yes, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze made its Nintendo Switch debut and stormed through the charts with a solid 88,421 units sold. In comparison, the original Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on the Wii U debuted with just 35,717 units sold.

At #2 is last week’s big-hitter Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakuu 2018 which sold over 124,000 in its debut as last week’s top title. This week it sold 39,430 units on PS4. Following at #3 is Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit with some rather strong sales of 32,244 units sold for Switch.

As far as other notable titles go, the previous week was the first time Monster Hunter: World dropped out of the top-20 since its release, after charting at #26. Last week was no different as it isn’t in the top-20 once again. Also missing is The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II: Kai which charted at #10 last week with 11,345 units. One surprise on a positive note is the return of Animal Crossing: New Leaf –Welcome amiibo, which managed to sneak in at #20 with 3,991 units sold on the 3DS.
