The game keeps track of all the coins you collect across all its modes.

Players will be able to purchase extra Coin Rush stages, a new mode where you try to collect as many coins as you can before time runs out.

Jumping through a gold ring made Cheep Cheeps carry a trail of coins when they hop out of the water. Bouncing on one of the flying fishes rewarded Mario with five coins.

The game will feature Mario and Luigi, and you’ll be able to play through the entire game with a friend cooperatively.

Nintendo say the two Mario games are being made by entirely different teams.

Gold coins are left behind by enemies, rain down from overhead pipes, and special gold pipes transport you into coin-filled caverns, too.

Nintendo say that you can also use the Wii U GamePad to help other players perform cooperative speedruns.

Nintendo confirmed the news at their E3 media briefing.

“Some publishers believe that the digital versions should be cheaper while others insist that both versions must be set at exactly the same price,” says Nintendo’s Iwata.

Starting with New Super Mario Bros. 2, Nintendo will offer more of their first-party games as both retail and download titles.
