Rock of Ages Skeeball? No, It’s SkeeBoulder

Recommended Videos

Another of Atlus’ upcoming games is Rock of Ages, developed by Ace Team, and still planned for release sometime this spring. We hadn’t heard from Atlus about it in a while, until today, when they put up their full website for the game.

A quick recap: Rock of Ages involves you attacking enemy territory by rolling a giant, smiling boulder at their castle. The opponent defends against your boulder by using their own units such as cows, elephants, windmills, explosives, catapults and…is that a dragon we see above?

You can play Rock of Ages either in singleplayer mode against the computer or in multiplayer mode, which lets you go splitscreen or online with a friend.

In addition to its regular mode, Rock of Ages has a “SkeeBoulder Mode,” where you roll your boulder along, trying to collect points along the way. The objective is to collect the most points, and you can increase your multiplier by launching off ramps into the highest-scoring targets. There’s also a Time-Trial mode in which you need to find the quickest route down each map by discovering shortcuts and alternate paths.

The twist is that Rock of Ages takes you through different eras of art history along the course of the game, such as Goya, Renaissance, Rococo, and Gothic. You can learn more, including how the game controls, in our interview with Ace Team from last year.

Rock of Ages is slated for release on Xbox Live Arcade, PC and PlayStation Network. The game’s art style is inspired by Terry Gilliam’s Monty Python cartoons.
