Sonic Generations On Nintendo 3DS Designed Differently From Console Versions

Nintendo Power magazine already confirmed that Sonic Generations is indeed headed to the Nintendo 3DS, but Sega have “officially” revealed a few details on the 3DS version of the game now.

Similar to the console games, Sonic Generations will let you play as classic and modern Sonic, and will have stages based on well-known levels from previous Sonic games. However, Sega say that Sonic Generations will have environments exclusively designed for the 3DS.

According to information in Nintendo Power, this refers to the fact that both classic and modern Sonic’s stages will be sidescrolling. Classic Sonic stages will be inspired by the Sega Genesis games, while modern Sonic stages will feel more inspired by the stages from the Sonic Rush games, where Sonic uses the Sonic Boost to pick up speed.

StreetPass features are also in, although they haven’t been detailed. You’ll be able to unlock new content and bonus material when you pass by another player in StreetPass mode. The game will also have a two-player Versus mode. Sega also mention that they will include an unlockable “Special Stage” for the Nintendo 3DS version of the game.

Sonic Generations on the 3DS will have the same story as its console counterparts, and is due out in November 2011, alongside the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.
