Final Fantasy XIV Players To Get Extended Free Trials Following Troubled Launch

Following its launch, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has been going through server and login issues, as well as character creation restrictions, and the game’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, has provided an update on what Square Enix plan to do about it.

“To ensure as many players as possible can log in and create characters on existing servers, our development and operations teams are monitoring server load and population around the clock, placing and removing restrictions with even the slightest fluctuation in numbers in order to maintain near-full capacity on each World,” Yoshida writes on the game’s official forums.

“We are still experiencing maximum concurrent connection numbers of over 230,000 users. This number, however, has taxed some of our instance servers, and is causing unexpected down time here, as well.”

In addition, Yoshida says, new Worlds are currently being added to the game and tested internally. Provided all goes well, Square Enix will perform an extended all-World maintenance on Wednesday (Japan time), following which the new Worlds will be made available for use by players.

Says Yoshida, “When Worlds do finally reopen after the maintenance, we expect a rush of players trying to log back in. To prevent any further login issues, we will be using the utmost caution when restarting each World. Please understand that there may be some congestion at this time.”

Finally, in order to make up for the game’s troubled launch, Square Enix are considering providing all players with an additional seven days of free trial time. This includes non-legacy players from version 1.0 of the game as well, who will be given new seven-day free trials.

These trials will be awarded after the Wednesday server maintenance, and Square Enix will announce more details about them soon.
