After a week of delay due to the holidays, Media Create has updated with the latest with sales figures from the week of December 21st through 26th.

One of the main highlights of the week was for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem (Genei Ibun Roku#FE) which released in Japan on December 26, 2015 and saw a total sales figure of 26,340.

The total sales figure for the game is surely on the lower end of things by Nintendo and Atlus’ standards, but keep in mind that the game released on the 26th of December, which is the last day on the Media Create tracker, so we’ll likely see higher numbers in this week’s software ranking and sales.

It’s also worth noting that the game released on the day after Christmas, when most people have already emptied out their wallets on gifts and sales, so it definitely looks much worse compared to the other software that have been selling quite well prior to the holiday.

However, 26,340 is still a pretty low number for a day 1 sales of any major title. If we break it down, there are probably various factors as to why it didn’t perform as well as the company may have hoped for, with one example being that the game is an RPG for a console that basically just has Xenoblade Chronicles X as the only other major RPG title, so there wasn’t much of an audience to begin with.

We can also say that the title of “Genei Ibun Roku #FE” itself may not have caught as much attention as its tentative title of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, when fans hoped to see something more along the lines of a darker image from the Shin Megami Tensei series along with the characters and story that you’d get from the Fire Emblem games with a mix of gameplay from both series.

Instead, the game ended up being what some may consider to be closer to Persona-like title [at least the more recent ones] with some Fire Emblem heroes and references in a world of idols and entertainers—so it wouldn’t be a far stretch to say that there may have been identity and target audience problems for the game.

Moving along, we also had Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS Force make its debut on PlayStation Vita. While some fans voiced their critical opinions about the game since its release, it still sold quite well at 87,254 units in its first three days. It may not be on the same level of one of the previous games in the series with Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS Full Boost, which opened with 269,940 units in its first week, but respectable numbers, nonetheless.

Rocket Company also released Medabots 9: Kabuto/Kuwagata and it sold 27,702 for its opening week—a few thousand shy of Medabots 8’s debut of 33,326 units sold in its first week.

And as one last note, Monster Hunter X took back the reins after having been dropped to second place the previous week by Monster Strike on 3DS. The two have swapped places for the most recent week, so it looks like Monster Hunter X ended up winning the Christmas battle in the end. Most of the top-10 titles also continued selling well throughout the course of the holidays, too.
