Last week, Japan had three new titles in the top-20 software charts with Super Robot Wars X on PS4 and PS Vita, Far Cry 5 on PS4, and Shining Resonance Refrain on PS4. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of March 26 through April 1, 2018.
The #1 spot of the week goes to Super Robot Wars X on PS4 with 89,259 units sold, and it also grabbed the #3 spot with its PS Vita version selling 54,042, combining for a total of 143,301 units between the two. Last March Japan saw the release of Super Robot Wars V which sold 183,887 units (100,154 on PS4 and 83,733 on PSV) so it took a bit of a drop on the same systems.
Next up we have Far Cry 5 at #2, and it has been met with pleasant reception in Japan with a big debut of 75,474 units sold in its first week on PS4. This is a huge bump from its previous title Far Cry Primal which opened with 25,302 units sold on PS4 back in April 2016. The last main-numbered Far Cry game in Far Cry 4 debuted with 36,239 units for PS4 in February 2015 in Japan, so it is overall a huge improvement for the series. Perhaps we could attribute this to the open-world co-op aspect that is being pushed for the new entry.
Kirby: Star Allies which was the #1 of the past two weeks finds itself at #4 with an impressive 50,437 units sold on Nintendo Switch for its third week. At #5 we have Splatoon 2 with 25,639 units sold. The third and last new title in this week’s top-20 is Shining Resonance Refrain at #6 with 23,054 units sold on PS4.
In the hardware front, the PlayStation 4 sold 17,457 units and the PS4 Pro sold 7,868 for a total of 25,325 units sold between the two. The best-selling console of the week goes once again to the Nintendo Switch with 44,033 units sold to take up about 52.6% of all hardware sales in the week. Going by Media Create’s data, the Nintendo Switch has now sold 3,995,504 units since its launch in March 3, 2017.
