Last week in Japan, we saw a few key releases with God Eater 3 on PS4, Judgment which is called Judge Eyes in Japan, and Peach Ball: Senran Kagura which released in a double pack with Reflexions on Switch. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of December 10 to December 16, 2018.

 

The #1 spot of the week goes to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate which sold an impressive 406,617 units in its second week to put it up to a total of 1,627,152 units sold through retail in Japan.

 

#2 goes to God Eater 3 which sold 150,523 units in its debut on PS4, a bit on the lower end compared to past God Eater titles, which you can see for yourself below:

  • (2010) God Eater Burst – 263,150 [PSP]
  • (2013) God Eater 2 – 378,350 [PSV 266,326|PSP 112,024]
  • (2015) God Eater 2 Rage Burst – 272,004 [PSV 234,180|PS4 37,824]
  • (2018) God Eater 3 – 150,523

 

Judgment (Judge Eyes, Project Judge) charted at #3 with 148,246 units sold on PS4, which actually isn’t too shabby even with holiday inflation in mind. You can check how it compares to the Yakuza games on PS4 by the Ryu ga Gotoku Studio:

  • (2015) Yakuza 0 – 236,329 [PS4/PS3]
  • (2016) Yakuza Kiwami – 163,683 [PS4/PS3]
  • (2016) Yakuza 6 – 218,168 [PS4]

Next, we have Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! at #4 with 108,773 units sold on Switch, Super Mario Party at #5 with 97,529 units sold on Switch. As for the third new title of the week, we have the Peach Ball: Senran Kagura as part of Senran Kagura: Peach & Reflexions Limited Double Pack at #12 with 10,321 units sold for Switch.

 

In hardware sales, we’re seeing the holiday figures in full effect with a big boost across all major platforms. The PS4 sold 62,580 units plus an extra 19,014 PS4 Pros to combine for 81,594 units The Nintendo Switch sold 281,213 units as the best-selling console in the week with 72.8% of all hardware sales. Going by Media Create’s figures, the Nintendo Switch is currently at 6,393,313 units sold in Japan since its launch in March 3, 2017.
