Sekiro Shadows Die Twice

Last week in Japan was a bit of a bittersweet, week as it saw the release of big titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Super Robot Wars T, and Atelier Lulua, but it was also the final week of the sales column provided by Media Create. The Japanese sales tracker Media shared the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of March 18 to March 24, 2019.

The top-selling #1 title of the week goes to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice with 157,548 units sold on PS4 for an excellent debut. While it may not rank as high as FromSoftware’s Dark Souls games in opening sales, it pulled similar numbers to Bloodborne when it debuted as a new IP in Japan back in 2015. Check out how they compare below:

  • (2011) Dark Souls  – 279,567 [PS3]
  • (2014) Dark Souls II261,147 [PS3-255,197|X360-5,950]

The latest Atelier game released with Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland for PlayStation 4 at #5 with 27,734 units sold and for Switch at #13 with 12,473 units sold in its debut for a total of 40,207 units sold between the two. It’s the first rise in opening sales for the main entry since Atelier Sophie in 2015, so it’ll be crucial for Gust and Koei Tecmo to ride the momentum going into the next Atelier game.
