While eating a single berry or veggie is a good way to restore Ditto move PP in Pokemon Pokopia, eating food from cooking a recipe is a better way to restore energy and even power up abilities so you can tackle stronger situations. However, this doesn’t come up as an option until you meet Chef Dente in Rocky Ridges and free the character from a barrel.

How do I start cooking food via recipes in Pokemon Pokopia?

This gameplay element is tied to campaign progress, so you can’t start whipping up meals in Withered Wasteland. Instead, you need to finish the questline in that area and head to Rcky Ridges. As you go through that story, you’ll see Chef Dente hanging from a barrel attached to a chain via the ceiling. While you can jump up to said chain, Cut isn’t strong enough to break it. That’s where the first recipes come into play.

During this process, you’ll learn recipes for various cooking utensils and meals. So it will start with learning how to make a Cutting Board so you can turn leaves into a Simple Salad, then lead up to getting the Oven so you can turn Wheat into Simple Bread. By the time Chef Dente is fully unlocked, you’ll know how to make Simple Bread and Simple Salad. Simple Hamburger Steak will come later as part of another quest to learn to make a frying pan. However, in order to get Simple Soup, you will need to head to the courtyard just outside the museum ruins in Rocky Ridge to steal the stew pot next to the Magby statue to combine water from fresh water.

In Pokemon Pokopia, the base form of recipes tend to be fine for our purposes, though Pokemon might request fancier things like a mushroom soup or bread made with carrots. Having certain characters following you while you cook, like Dartrix, can also alter a recipe and result in a Shredded Salad instead of a Simple Salad. But in general, here are the four recipes that you’ll use most and the moves they’ll affect.

  • Simple Bread (and other breads) will make Cut powerful enough to cut through metal and restore the move’s PP. It requires wheat and a bread oven.
  • Simple Hamburger allows you to smash some normally unbreakable rocks and collect gold and iron ore with Rock Smash while also restoring all PP for that move. It needs beans, a frying pan, and a stove.
  • Simple Salad will allow Leafage to grow four patches of grass instead of one on land, water, or stone and restore all PP. It requires leaves and a cutting board.
  • Simple Soup lets Water Gun blast water and restores the move’s PP. It needs fresh water and a pot.

Pokemon Pokopia is available for the Switch 2.
