As part of the cavalcade of Japanese game news and announcements today due to the September 2026 State of Play, we got a first look at the game The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes. It is based on the light novel, manga, and anime of the same name. Aiming, Team Caravan, Clouded Leopard, and NIS are all involved in this new project.
The footage began with us seeing Alpha as she headed out on an assignment and declares, “All is for shadow, and for Shadow Garden.” We see her start to run after the transfer to the Sanctuary and attack opponents. This is a 3D roguelike experience. The footage showed her performing combos to dispatch a foe. After that, we see a screen come up asking the player to select an Awakening to power her up, with the options being Chase Attack level 1, Ebony Swirl: Zero Range Kai level 1, and Prism Flash level 1. That’s followed by an Ancient Memories selection, which featured Amber Ring, Amethyst Claws, and Onyx Armor possible equipment/relic selection. From there we get to see her fight with apparently that enhanced power.
Here’s the full trailer. It ends with a story-related teaser that suggests something is awry. We see Alpha call out for Delta, who is affixed to a board and attacked. Cid Kagenou is standing before her in his Shadow form. Alpha happens upon the two of them and seems shocked.
This isn’t the only game based on The Eminence in Shadow anime, light novel, and manga. Another one appeared worldwide too. That was the mobile title The Eminence in Shadow: Master of Garden. Crunchyroll handled the global version of that.
The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes is in development for the Switch 2, PS5 and PC, and it will release in 2027. The light novel and manga are handled by Yen Press outside Japan. The anime is streaming via HIDIVE and Amazon. A new movie called The Eminence in Shadow: Resonance Arc will launch in 2027.
