Nintendo shared a 23.0.0 firmware update for the Switch 2 that allows you to transfer your data to another Switch 2 system or generate a QR code for Miis you made on the console. This comes ahead of a The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary edition of the device launching in October 2026. The Mii feature arrives following the release of games like Tomodachi Life: Living the Dreamand the upcoming Nintendo Switch Sports Resort that let you import the avatars into the titles to use as characters.
Previously, the Switch 2 system transfer option tended to only involve moving from an original system to the new one that launched in June 2025. This new option lets you transfer things like digital copies of your games, the save files you have on the system, media like screenshots, and any settings, Parental Controls, and preferences you had enabled on it. We’ll likely see the guide update as a result of this new firmware.
As for the Mii QR code support on the Switch 2 via the firmware 23.0.0 update, this will allow someone to use the avatar on the editor to create a character, then share that with other people who own the system. Presumably, this is designed to make it easier to add folks you know to existing games. As a reminder, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream would allow you to create a custom character or upload a Mii that is already on your system to use, but there’s no online support to allow someone to share from in-game with others playing.

- The list of chats you can join now shows chats you have previously joined.
- When starting a new chat, you can now enter without inviting any friends.
- Added an option to the menu that appears when you press the C Button during a chat that lets you change the screen size.
- Added “Settings” to Virtual Game Cards from the HOME Menu.
- You can review and edit which of your systems can use virtual game cards, among other options.
- Added support for VRR (Variable refresh rate) in TV mode.
- When both the software and TV support it, video will be output at a refresh rate that matches the game’s processing.
- A Nintendo Switch 2 dock update is required to enable this feature.
- Added the ability to perform a system transfer from a Nintendo Switch system to another Nintendo Switch 2 system.
- The following updates have been made in Accessibility in Systems Settings:
- Added Portuguese (Brazil) to “Text to Speech” languages.
- Added Portuguese (Brazil) to “GameChat Voice ⇔ Speech to Text” languages.
- The following updates have been made in Audio in System Settings:
- Added the option to save settings separately for each connected TV.
- The following updates have been made in Display in System Settings:
- Renamed “Dock Output Information” to “Video Output Information” which now includes details about the signals that the connected TV can display.
- Added settings for VRR.
- The following updates have been made in Mii in System Settings:
- Added a feature that lets you create a QR Code for a Mii and share it with other users.
- The following updates have been made in Sleep Mode in System Settings:
- Choosing the volume for Play Wake-Up Sound in TV Mode now plays immediately so you can check the level.
- Added the ability to enable or disable “Handheld Mode Boost” from the Quick Settings.
- System Transfer to Nintendo Switch 2 has been added under System Settings > System.
- When starting software, if a virtual game card cannot be ejected from another console because it is powered off or otherwise not connected to the internet, there will be a prompt to start the software using an online license.
- Only the user who purchased the software can play it using the online license.
- Background Music (BGM) now plays on the “Edit a Mii” screen.
- You can change, or stop, the music using the BGM Settings in the upper corner of the screen.
- You can now use other controllers with Handheld Boost Mode while Joy-Con 2 controllers are attached to the system.
- Play activity, found on My Page > Profile, now combines play time from the same software across multiple systems.
- The play time of the software you’ve played since the update will be combined and displayed sequentially.
- General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.
The 23.0.0 Switch 2 firmware update with a new system transfer option and Mii QR code support is now available. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort comes to the console on October 26, 2026. A The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary version of the system launches on October 29, 2026.
