Ono: Capcom And Namco Won’t Interfere With Street Fighter And Tekken Crossovers

Recently speaking with The Guardian, Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono — known as the producer of the Street Fighter IV games various other responsibilities — revealed that Capcom and Namco Bandai have an agreement to not interfere with each other’s Street Fighter and Tekken crossover projects.

Ono is referring to two games: Street Fighter x Tekken, a 2D fighting game in development at Capcom, and Tekken x Street Fighter, a 3D fighting game being developed by Namco Bandai.

“When we first decided to go ahead with this project we agreed not to interfere with each other at all!” Ono revealed to The Guardian. “So Namco Bandai has no say in anything we do in Street Fighter x Tekken and vice versa for Tekken x Street Fighter — we have no idea what that’s going to look like and we cannot object to whatever Namco does!”

He jokingly added: “If they go down the Dead or Alive route and Chun-Li comes out rather sexy, we STILL can’t say anything!”

Ono also states that his “grand scheme” is to make fighting games more accessible to a larger audience. To this end, Ono believes that Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, recently released on the Nintendo 3DS, is an important milestone, and that the 3DS system itself coincides with his goal.
