Resident Evil 6 And Social Games Doing Well; Capcom Profits Soar

Owing to higher-than-expected sales of Dragon’s Dogma in Japan—currently a more profitable market for Japanese companies due to currency exchange rates—and to Resident Evil 6’s strong start, Capcom saw profits of 4.1 billion yen ($51.6 million).

That’s an increase of 355.1 % over the same period (April – September) the year prior, Capcom point out.

As of the end of September, Resident Evil 6 had shipped 3.7 million copies worldwide, Capcom say. As previously reported, by October 4th, that number increased to 4.5 million. Meanwhile, Dragon’s Dogma is now at 1.2 million copies worldwide, up from 1 million in June.

Additionally, Capcom report that Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City has enjoyed “steady growth in sales” and that downloadable content for the game has proven to be popular, which contributed to improved profits.

Meanwhile, on the social games front, Resident Evil: Outbreak Survive for GREE racked up over 2 million registered users, while previously released social games like The Smurfs’ Village continued to perform strongly. Finally, Monster Hunter Frontier Online is continuing to bring in steady revenue as well.

As previously reported, Capcom expect their ongoing fiscal year to see record-high figures for all income categories with $1.3 billion in net sales and $122.7 million in profits.
