The Evil Within tells the story of a police detective Sebastian who is investigating a crime scene at an asylum with his partner. Sebastian is attacked and passes out. When he comes to, he awakens to a world of horrifying creatures.

Mikami describes The Evil Within as “pure survival horror”. Mikami feels that the survival horror genre involves a balancing act of being on the defensive and offensive, depending on the situation and the resources available to you. It’s this balance that he hopes to achieve with The Evil Within.

The Evil Within is in development for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The game is scheduled for release in 2014. You can read our hands-on impressions of the game from E3 here.
