The Norwegian Film Institute has given Dreamfall Chapters developer Red Thread Games a $144,000 grant to create Draugen, a first-person survival horror game set in the mountains and fjords of the Norwegian west coast.
Taking place in the 1920s, Draugen will have you playing as an American nature photographer, botanist and entomologist. The story is inspired by Scandinavian legends and fairytales, and takes place in a remote fishing community where everyone has mysteriously vanished.
You will come across certain characters in the game, though. One of these will be a woman in black that you’ll occasionally spot far off in the distance. Then there’s the little girl singing broken lullabies as the sky darkens. Both are somehow connected to the tragedy of this community, but figuring out how is part of the story.
Draugen is early in development and is being developed alongside Dreamfall Chapters. Red Thread say that the new game won’t interfere with the development of Dreamfall, as Draugen is being developed by an entirely new team. Both games are being created using the Unity engine.
