A Few Details On Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn For PlayStation 4

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is coming to the PlayStation 4 in 2014, and like a number of other MMORPGs, the game has a subscription fee associated with it. Luckily, you won’t have to pay the game’s subscription and a fee for PlayStation Plus, which is normally required to access online multiplayer in PS4 games.

In a Letter from the Producer video Q&A, the game’s developers revealed: “PlayStation Plus is used for various online services for online multiplayer and has a fee associated with it. However, for the PlayStation 4 version of FFXIV: ARR, we received permission from Sony Computer Entertainment to allow play without subscribing to PlayStation Plus.”

Additionally, Square Enix confirmed that the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will allow one to use USB keyboards and mice that are compatible with the PlayStation 4 to play the game. You’ll also be free to configure special controls as you see fit.

Something to note, though is that you’ll be also able to control an in-game cursor using the touchpad on the PlayStation 4’s Dualshock 4 controller. This is pictured above.

Finally, Square say that they plan on releasing a collector’s edition for the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. They add, “At the same time, we’re also considering players who’ve already purchased a Collector’s Edition, and will ensure that they don’t feel obligated to make another purchase for bonus items.”

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for PlayStation 4 will be available in April 2014. Prior to that, a beta for the game will be rolled out alongside the launch of the Japanese launch of the PS4 on January 22nd. While the first beta test will only be accessible to newly-created characters, the second phase will allow you to use your existing character.
