Snatcher Developers Working On Steampunk Adventure Game

Blackmore is a Japanese adventure game that takes place in a steampunk world, and is being created by a team of well-known developers. The game—which is up now on Kickstarter—has you playing as Emma Blackmore, a lady who, with the help of a robot sidekick, is tracking down a serial killer terrorizing East London.

Blackmore’s development team is being led by Jeremy Blaustein, known for his work on localizing Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill, as well as Snatcher. Meanwhile, art duties fall upon Satoshi Yoshioka (character designer on Snatcher, Policenauts), while Motoaki Furukawa, who composed music for Snatcher and Gradius, will work on the game’s soundtrack.

In case you were wondering, yes, David Hayter is involved with the project, too. Hayter will be playing Jonas Blackmore, the head of the Blackmore family, and Emma’s brother. Emma and Jonas have a Japanese mother, who is their only link to their Japanese family, the Honda clan.

Blackmore will be a point-and-click adventure game featuring an isometric view with 2.5D graphics. Blaustein says the goal of the game is to meld Japanese and western design sensibilities, being a hybrid of Japanese art and music and written by a westerner.

“I have chosen a setting and a time period that will make a smooth cultural translation that won’t have any resistance in connecting with the West as well as the East,” Blaustein writes on Blackmore’s Kickstarter page. “Indeed the character I have chosen, Emma, being a half-Japanese heroine really represents that effort towards merging both sides.”

Blackmore is targeting a spring 2015 release, and is hoping to accumulate $200,000 in Kickstarter contributions. You can learn more about the game here.
