Ninja Theory’s Hellblade Is Being Developed By Less Than 15 People

Ninja Theory recently announced that they’ve been working on a new third-person action game, titled Hellblade. Meant to be an “independent AAA” production, Hellblade will be shorter than your typical AAA game, will be developed by a small team, and self-published by Ninja Theory.

On Twitter, the studio recently answered a few quick questions about the game. For starters, they said, Hellblade has been in development for about four months now, and is being worked on by a team of 12 – 15 people. Ninja Theory are trying to keep the staff count below 15, they shared.

The game is still in early stages of production. A release window has not been determined yet, and several of the Hellblade’s mechanics are still in planning. However, Ninja Theory say that story is an “incredibly important” part of the game, and that motion capture is important to the studio.

When asked if Hellblade will be influenced by Dark Souls or Demon’s Souls (sigh), Ninja Theory responded that the goal is to make a game focused on combat, not an RPG. Regarding the game’s camera, the studio is still in the process of figuring out whether it will be fixed or will allow for free camera control.

In case you missed it, you can watch the CG reveal trailer for Hellblade above. The game will be released on PlayStation 4 first, and will then proceed to other platforms.
