The Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. will allow for up to 8 players to play simultaneously, Nintendo announced this afternoon.

8-player mode will be a special mode in the game  and won’t be available online. It will also be limited to certain stages in the game, which are larger than usual. Three of these stages are: Palutena’s Temple, Temple and Big Battlefield.

Additionally, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will allow for battling on two planes on certain stages—the foreground and the background. The image above shows off one such stage from the game.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be released on November 21st in North America  and December 5th in Europe.
