Take A Look At How Ninja Theory Discusses Ideas For Hellblade’s Combat System

Recommended Videos

Ninja Theory have shared a glimpse at a recent combat review meeting that was held at the studio to discuss Hellblade’s combat system. While she isn’t part of the team, the combat designer from DmC Devil May Cry was brought aboard to be part of the critiquing process.

The video shares a look at some early prototype footage for Hellblade, and also shows off the behind-the-shoulder view that Ninja Theory are using for the game. You can watch them debate the idea of directional blocks, inverted axis controls, and much more. It’s a very interesting look at the kind of discussions that take place when coming up with a combat system for an action game.

Regarding the split-screen multiplayer mode you see in the prototype—Ninja Theory say that this is a feature being used solely for testing purposes. They have a second player controlling the enemy character, since the AI hasn’t been coded into the game yet. It does look neat, though, and it would be fun to incorporate a similar feature into Hellblade’s final release.

Hellblade is in development for PC and PlayStation 4. Ninja Theory have said it will also be made available on other platforms in the future.
