The Dark Souls Board Game Kickstarter Raised Over $5.4 Million

Steamforged Games’ Dark Souls Kickstarter campaign to make a board game based on From Software’s punishing action RPG was successful. £3,771,474, about $5,444,801, was raised by 31,178 who believed in the project. It’s starting goal was only £50,000 (~$72,215), and that was raised within three minutes of its April 19, 2016 launch.

The Dark Souls board game will be a cooperative experience. One to four players head into a dungeon, trying to defeat bosses. The dungeon resets itself if you leave, meaning you have to decide if it’s worth it to press forward and risk a boss fight you might not be prepared for, or head back and need to rediscover areas later.

Because of the crowdfunding endeavor’s success, seven stretch goals were unlocked. People who pledged would also get the Player Characters, Core Game, Iron Keep, Armour Set, Invaders, and Summoned Expansions, as well as a Solaire of Astora summoned model. Those contributing could also pay extra to add on Gaping Dragon, Black Dragon Kalameet, The Guardian Dragon, The Four Kings, Asylum Demon, Old Iron King, and Vordt of the Boreal Valley Boss Expansions, as well as a Darkroot Basin Expansion Set and double-sided gaming tiles for the Darkoot Basin and Iron Keep.

People who missed the Dark Souls board game Kickstarter campaign can contribute a £80 (~$115) late pledge through the Steamforged Games website. The board game is expected to be released in April 2017.
