Niantic Shares Details On Revenue Generated By Sponsorship Partners For Pokémon GO

Since Pokémon GO’s release back in July 2016, the mobile game has transformed businesses such as McDonald’s and Starbucks into sponsored locations where players can find Poké Gyms or Poké Stops. Developer Niantic has said that approximately 500 million players have visited these sponsored locations, yet it never revealed how much money per visitor each sponsorship partner paid.

Now, in a recent interview by Brazil’s Globo, Niantic revealed that the sponsorship partners pay roughly $.50 per daily unique visit. In Japan, 3,000 McDonald’s stores were activated as sponsored locations, with 2,000 people visiting daily at its peak. Using that model, and during the height of the Pokémon GO craze last year, McDonald’s could have paid out about $3 million per day. Now that’s a lot of Pokémon Dollar.
