Resident Evil 2 Denuvo Removal Means There’s One Less Tyrant You’ll Have to Face

DRM has been removed from another game. Capcom has had the Resident Evil 2 Denuvo removed. The product page on Steam no longer makes any reference to the anti-tamper technology. Now, the only thing you have to worry about when playing is signing a third-party EULA first. (Thanks, DSOGaming!)

Resident Evil 2 launched with Denuvo, which isn’t uncommon for PC games. The goal of the technology is to prevent piracy, though it can sometimes hamper game performance in the process. Capcom has a habit of removing the DRM measure without much fanfare, as it pulled Denuvo from games like Resident Evil 7 and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

While Resident Evil 2 Denuvo has been removed, a number of Capcom games still use the technology. Dead Rising 4, Devil May Cry 5, and Monster Hunter World still have it enabled. Of these three, Dead Rising 4 is the oldest to still have the DRM. (It launched back in March 2017.)

This isn’t the only recent Resident Evil 2 change. The game was updated recently to add a new trophy and activity connected to the upcoming Resident Evil 3 remake. A new Resident Evil 2 RPD Demo, complete with Nemesis Easter egg, has also appeared.

Resident Evil 2 is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
