While Digimon Survive has yet to get a proper release date in Japan, it’s been delayed to TBA. The announcement comes from this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]
Update: Bandai Namco confirmed that the “TBA” date for Digimon Survive was a typo from Famitsu. The game is still scheduled to release in 2020.
When Bandai Namco first announced Digimon Survive, it came with a 2019 release date in Japan. At Anime Expo 2019 last July, the company announced during the “Future of Digimon” panel that it was delayed to 2020.
Unfortunately, the magazine didn’t provide any further details, but it is likely due to the current situation with the pandemic. However, keep in mind that the delay doesn’t rule out the possibility of a new release date within 2020, but if it happens it will likely be near the end of the year at this rate.
The developers have been trickling bits of character information over the past few months, but even those have slowed down. We haven’t heard much since February, but the last ones we saw were Shuji Kayama and his partner Lopmon and Saki Kimishima and her partner Floramon.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with the upcoming title, Digimon Survive is set in a completely different world. Not only that, but it’s also a completely different genre from the series’ norm as a strategy RPG. Its story is also told in a visual novel style. The game will also be much darker with the possibility of player choices leading to the demise of other characters.
