The official website noted that this problem is not only causing problems for people playing games on the Nintendo Switch, like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but is also negatively impacting other consoles and services. Both the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo Wii U are included in the Nintendo online outage, as are web-based services using the browser. The site noted this first started at 3:42pm PT on May 9, 2020.

This is the second time a major, temporary Nintendo online went down during the pandemic. Near the beginning of stay at home orders, on March 17, 2020, services went down for all systems as well. They were restored shortly after.

Update: Service has been restored.
