Ghosts ‘n Goblins: Gold Knights II Haunts The iPhone

Does the name “Makaimura Kishi Retsuden” sound familiar? No? Maybe “Ghosts ‘n Goblins: Gold Knights” will invoke some sort of reaction. Last year, Capcom released an original Ghosts ‘n Goblins game for the iPhone, titled Makaimura Kishi Retsuden. The game was effectively an upgraded port of a mobile phone title.

Sticking with their plan of using their core franchises to establish their presence in the mobile phone space, they later followed up with Makaimura Kishi Retsuden II, starring longtime series protagonist, Arthur, and his new partner, Percival. Together, the two are required to rescue Lancelot, Arthur’s partner from Retsuden.

As of last week, this sequel has been ported to the iPhone and iPad as well. Here’s how the controls in Ghosts ‘n Goblins: Gold Knights II work:

The virtual d-pad lets you move, attack upward and climb ladders. The second button is for attacking, while the third lets you jump. Button 4 is used to access your skills, and the button on the top-right allows you to pause the game and access options.

Additionally, Retsuden II also allows for DLC, which Capcom say inexperienced players can use to “customize” their experience. You can download an unlimited lives feature, skill power-ups, durability power-ups, have the game remove pitfalls and traps, and even free weapons and a triple-jump ability. The game’s iTunes page tells us each add-on costs 115 yen.

Retsuden II itself costs 600 yen on the iTunes store.
