Paramount Officially Confirms Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Sequel

The blue blur’s first Hollywood outing was a surprise success, and he’s coming back for a second run. Via Variety, Paramount Pictures has confirmed that a Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel will be produced. The project will retain all of its core creative and managerial team, although no details beyond that have been confirmed or even decided on. This news follows a wave of good news for the historic hedgehog, including the movie’s status as highest-grossing video game movie in our neck of the woods. [Thanks, Variety!]

Jeff Fowler is returning as director, and both Pat Casey and Josh Miller will be the head screenwriters. Producing are Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara. Executive Producers will again be Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi, and Tim Miller.

These are the only names attached to the Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel so far. The project is in the early development stages, so there is no available casting or production information at this time. The COVID-19 situation, which ended up getting the first movie an early home release, likely means we won’t hear of production for a while, especially since California is one of the most locked-down states in the country.

Sonic the Hedgehog is available now in various media formats and on digital marketplaces. The next video games in the series may not see an announcement in the near future, as development times have been increased for quality control reasons.

Lucas writes about video games a lot and is a former Siliconera editor. Sometimes he plays them. Every now and then he enjoys one. To get on his good side, say nice things about Dragon Quest and Musou. Never mention the Devil May Cry reboot in his presence. Backed Bloodstained on Kickstarter but all his opinions on it are correct regardless.
