KOF 2002 UM Rollback Netcode Beta Test Begins October 1, 2020

Something rather exciting will come to The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match. That is, SNK and Code Mystics are working on KOF 2002 UM rollback netcode. It’s far enough along that about a two week beta phase is coming. Between October 1-15, 2020, anyone who owns a Steam copy will be able to take part in the optional experience.

Once things kick off on October 1, 2020, people who own KOF 2002 UM can opt into the 64-bit Trial. Once they do, the rollback netcode will be implemented and they will only fight other beta test participants. This will last until October 15, 2020 or someone chooses to opt out of the beta, whichever comes first.

Code Mystics is quite active when it comes to maintaining and updating KOF 2002 UM. For example, back in 2018 it offered a beta branch so people could choose to go with the official build or play using in-progress ones with potential improvements. There’s already a Steam Discussions thread for this beta test announcing the addition, with users providing feedback on rollback netcode.

The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match first showed up on the PlayStation 2, before heading to arcades, the Xbox 360, and PCs. The KOF 2002 UM rollback netcode beta will be available on PCs between October 1-15, 2020.
