Nintendo Reveals Switch Sales have Surpassed 79 Million Consoles Worldwide

In a new financial report, Nintendo has disclosed that the Nintendo Switch console has surpassed 79.87 million sales worldwide. About 74 million of those were purchased by consumers. Due to this, Nintendo has raised its expectations for full-year Switch Sales. The company has already surpassed its original projection of 24 million units, it’s now expecting Nintendo Switch console sales to rest somewhere around 26 million units by the end of March. Additionally, President Shuntaro Furukawa that Nintendo now has a “sufficient component supply for now despite industry wide shortages,” which means more Nintendo Switch consoles will be in production. The console had previously become hard to obtain, specifically around the time Animal Crossing: New Horizons hit the market. The game had effectively become a smash hit overnight, with sales surging after its release. As it stands, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the highest selling title in the series to date. Other smash hits for the console have included Ring Fit Adventure and Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Overall, the company’s digital sales have also surged considerably. In a report by Bloomberg, Nintendo’s digital sales have doubled over a nine month period. This has been bolstered by digital sales of full games and DLC add-ons. This includes the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLCs for Pokemon Sword and Shield. Due to this, the company has also raised its full-year revenue forecast.
